Description
About Us:
Rare Beauty Brands is a fast-growing portfolio of innovative beauty and skincare brands, including Kate Somerville and Patchology. We combine the agility of a startup with the discipline of a performance-driven organization, scaling brands that inspire confidence, deliver results, and consistently outperform their categories. Our teams move quickly, test boldly, and operate with a deep commitment to data, creativity, and collaboration.
About the Role
Rare Beauty Brands is seeking a Social Media Manager to bring the Kate Somerville skincare brand story to life across Instagram, TikTok, and emerging platforms. This role owns the day-to-day execution of social content and community engagement, and seamlessly integrates our clinic heritage and retail priorities (including Ulta, Sephora, and Amazon) into our digital presence.
The successful candidate is a trend-obsessed beauty enthusiast who balances creative storytelling with data-driven strategy and dependable, forward-planned execution. This role requires hands-on content creation and short-form social video editing, and works cross-functionally with Digital, PR/Influencer, Clinic, Sales, and Brand teams to deliver cohesive, elevated, and engaging campaigns, on schedule and with minimal oversight. Must be based in the Los Angeles metropolitan area with the ability to be on-site at the clinic for shoots, treatments, and events as needed.
Responsibilities:
Social Strategy & Content Planning
- Build and publish a detailed social content calendar at least four weeks in advance, plus a quarterly content roadmap, balancing brand storytelling, skincare education, UGC, clinic content, trending topics, and promotions.
- Develop social campaign strategies and content plans to support product launches, seasonal campaigns, and broader business priorities
- Own the Social and Community roadmap within the Marketing calendar, proactively flagging upcoming activations for cross-functional visibility
- Align social content with key retail moments (Ulta, Sephora, Amazon) and clinic initiatives to support sales objectives
- Create timely, reactive content in response to cultural moments and evolving business needs
Content Creation & Production
- Ideate, create, and edit short-form video, graphics, and photography to support the feed, Stories, and active campaigns, at a consistent weekly cadence across Instagram and TikTok
- Develop filming concepts and clear creative briefs for execution by the Video Freelancer Coordinator and in-clinic aestheticians
- Write creative briefs outlining direction, messaging, and inspiration for the internal Creative team
- Oversee Instagram Stories sequencing, timing, and narrative flow
- Ensure every piece of published content meets an established quality checklist before it goes live
Community Management & Creator Relations
- Oversee daily community engagement, ensuring responses meet brand voice, clinical accuracy, and customer experience standards
- Partner with Influencer and Brand team to lead end-to-end support for community and in-clinic events, including on-site setup and operational support
- Plan and ideate monthly social giveaways and brand partnerships
- Keep the Social/Influencer Product Closet stocked, partnering with the influencer team on NCOs and shipping/product budgets
Reporting, Analytics & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Monitor real-time social performance and audience sentiment using Dash Hudson and native platforms, flagging trends and engagement opportunities
- Maintain the weekly Kate Somerville performance scorecard, and prepare monthly and quarterly reports on wins, trends, and recommendations
- Present social and community insights during cross-functional and brand meetings
- Independently manage assigned projects from planning through completion, proactively identifying next steps and surfacing risks before deadlines are impacted
- Collaborate with Digital, PR/Influencer, Clinic, Sales, and Brand teams to ensure accurate, unified, and timely social support
Qualifications:
- 4+ years of experience in social media, content creation, or community management, ideally within beauty, skincare, or lifestyle
- Strong proficiency in short-form video creation and editing (e.g., CapCut, native in-app tools) and social-first photography/graphics
- Experience with social analytics and management tools (e.g., Dash Hudson) to drive actionable insights
- Demonstrated ability to plan several weeks ahead and pivot in real-time when necessary
- A high degree of ownership and independent judgment, with a track record of hitting self-set deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal and cross-functional communication skills, with an understanding of retail (Ulta, Sephora, Amazon) and clinical/spa environments
- Highly organized and reliable, with the professionalism to join meetings prepared, from a dedicated workspace, and on time
- Track record presenting results and recommendations directly to cross-functional or leadership audiences.
What Success Looks Like
- A social content calendar is published at least four weeks out, with quarterly planning roughly three months ahead, rather than managed reactively day to day
- A consistent publishing cadence is maintained with deliverables completed on time
- Projects are owned end to end, with risks and blockers flagged proactively and minimal need for manager reminders
- Every post clears a quality checklist before publishing and meets or exceeds category benchmarks for engagement (e.g., Shares and Saves rates)
- Performance reporting is current, accurate, and delivered on a regular cadence
- The role shows up prepared and professional for meetings and in-market events (e.g., retail activations, in-clinic content days)
