Title: Future Ready Impact Specialist

Status: Full-time, Non-exempt (40 hours per week)

Work Schedule:

Monday- Friday 9:00 am-6:00 pm With occasional morning, evening, or weekend hours to accommodate meetings with program partners, schools, caregivers, and special events

LOCATION

Salinas and Seaside Clubhouse 

Reports to: Future Ready Coordinator

POSITION OVERVIEW

Future Ready staff focus on supporting young adults ages 16-24. Future Ready equips students with the academic and/or vocational & job skills they need to overcome obstacles on their way to college graduation and their future employment pursuits. 

While our program includes counseling on how to apply, complete financial aid forms and choose the right college, we also develop our students' social and emotional skills, including how to ask for help, access resources, build support networks, and maintain confidence. The Future Ready Program supports its students to and through college graduation, to pursue certification for other careers, such as the trades, or the military also receive support from club staff. 

The Future Ready Specialist works with the Future Ready Coordinator to provide the resources, support, tools, and navigational skills students need to successfully pursue and complete higher education, vocational training, and career exploration. The Future Ready Impact Specialist works with a caseload of post secondary students to help them with the college application process, their post secondary plans and play a key role in ensuring seamless implementation of the Future Ready Program. This program addresses the need for quality college and career advising in communities where few parents have attended college and where first-generation youth are not receiving the services they need to achieve their postsecondary goals.


ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a  Future Ready caseload of high school graduates and young adults to help them pursue their postsecondary goal
  • Create & execute Future Ready workshops & micro-learnings (college readiness, college and financial aid application support, career development skill building, personal well-being, etc.)
  • Maintain organized participant files in the program database; including case management notes, short term & long term goals, transcripts, graduation date, etc. 
  • Develop, cultivate relationships, and manage communication with participants
  • Orientation & recruitment of eligible HS seniors involved with Boys & Girls Clubs programs
  • Travel between clubhouse locations & off-site meetings at schools, universities, vocational programs, etc.
  • Steward and support community, collegiate, armed services, and trade school partner relationships
  • Support in the creation & running of program committees (social media, special events, etc.)
  • Connect participants with individuals in their chosen career field for meetings, questions & career mobility opportunities
  • Support in the administration of the BGCMC Scholarship program, ensuring equitable access and support for all eligible participants
  • Solicit and facilitate alumni participation in fundraising efforts, leveraging their experiences and success stories to support BGCMC's mission
  • Support fundraising efforts through stakeholder engagement
  • Attend resource fairs, and other initiatives that connect participants with educational and career opportunities.
  • Support facilitation of alumni events, such as reunions, networking opportunities, and mentoring programs, to foster ongoing connections with BGCMC
  • Perform additional relevant duties as assigned

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years working with high school-aged youth & young adult students
  • Ability to assist with the navigation of completing high school, college application, & financial aid systems
  • Experience guiding youth through the college application process
  • Background working in an ethnically diverse community and in meeting the needs of the groups represented in Monterey County
  • Strong initiative, self-starter, intrinsically motivated, problem solver
  • Strong interpersonal skills and youth development experience
  • Great organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, G-Suite, and Outlook
  • Valid driver's license 
  • Must successfully clear Moving Vehicle Record (MVR) check
  • Occasional travel between Club sites is required.

HIGHLY DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Oral and written fluency in spanish
  • Knowledge of CSU & UC systems (application, financial aid,admissions etc.)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 25 to 30 pounds;
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position including standing or sitting for up 50% of the time

Compensation

Salary starts at $24.77 to $26.02 per hour and is based on qualifications. Paid benefits package including vacation,paid sick leave, Medical, Vision, Pension and 403(b) Plan Investment Options.  Professional development opportunities are available contingent upon funding and approval. This position is classified as non-exempt and is eligible for overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
