As a Cybersecurity Engineer at Hummingbird, you’ll build, configure, and maintain the systems, integrations, and infrastructure that keep our environment secure and operational, with a strong focus on security engineering and analysis. You’ll spend most of your day translating requirements into working technical components, troubleshooting issues across systems, working security alerts and vulnerabilities, and building automation that reduces manual effort. You’ll work with growing independence, making sound technical decisions within established standards and knowing when to pull in help.

This is a role for a generalist who likes variety. You won’t be siloed into one narrow area; you’ll wear several hats across security and IT, take ownership of tools and applications in your scope, and have the freedom to spot a gap and build something to fill it. We leverage AI-assisted tools to enhance our capabilities, so comfort using them to build, test, and problem-solve matters as much as any single technology on your resume.

Note on level: We’re posting this role at an intermediate level, and for the right candidate we may consider hiring at a senior level based on demonstrated experience and scope. We reserve the ability to re-level a candidate when their experience warrants it.

What You’ll Do

• Build, configure, and maintain integrations, applications, and system connections across our enterprise environment.

• Take ownership of one or more security tools and applications in your scope, monitoring health and responding to alerts.

• Work through the queue of security alerts and vulnerabilities, investigating issues and routing them to the right next step.

• Build automation around alerting and repetitive security tasks to reduce manual effort for the team.

• Diagnose and resolve issues across configurations, integrations, and incidents, tracing problems to their root cause.

• Serve as a technical point of escalation for the service desk on issues that require deeper expertise.

• Implement security and quality controls, validating configurations against established policies and standards.

• Use AI-assisted tools to implement, test, troubleshoot, and document technical work with meaningful independence.

• Document configurations, automation logic, and dependencies clearly so systems stay understandable and supportable.

• Communicate issues, findings, and resolutions plainly to both technical and non-technical partners.

The Details

• Employment Eligibility: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

• Work Location: Remote. You must work from a location within the United States with consistent Internet service.

• Work Type: Full-time

• Compensation: Expected range is $96,000 - $124,500. New hires usually start between $96,000 - $115,000, depending on experience and internal equity. For the right candidate, we may consider hiring at a senior level, which could adjust the compensation accordingly.

Required & Desired Skills

What You’ll Bring

• 2+ years of experience delivering scoped technical work in areas such as software engineering, data engineering, information systems, cybersecurity, IT, or a related discipline, or demonstrated readiness.

• Hands-on experience with security tooling such as endpoint/EDR platforms, Zero Trust Architecture, Remote Monitoring and Management, or comparable tools.

• Experience building and maintaining applications, integrations, or automation workflows across a multi-system environment.

• Generalist range and a willingness to work outside your comfort zone, ideally shaped by a smaller team, MSP, or startup environment where you had to do a lot of different things.

• Hands-on experience using AI-assisted tools to build, test, troubleshoot, and iterate on technical work with meaningful independence.

• Working knowledge of security concepts, including access controls, authentication, and compliance frameworks.

• Strong problem-solving, organization, and the ability to work autonomously and juggle multiple priorities without close oversight.

• Clear communication with stakeholders and teammates, including translating technical tradeoffs into plain language.

• Comfort working fully remote, staying self-motivated, and collaborating across a small team and with the service desk.

Nice to Have

• Experience building and managing automations in a security context.

• Experience building safeguards in an evolving AI-centered environment.

• Exposure to scripting languages, API development, CI/CD Pipelines, and/or infrastructure-as-code tools
