Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is s seeking a dynamic and organized Administrative Assistant 4 to support the School of Civil, Chemical and Environmental Engineering. Reporting directly to the School Head, this full-time position serves as the school's primary administrative liaison and Office Manager, supporting faculty and staff while ensuring efficient day-to-day operations.

Key responsibilities include coordinating financial and HR transactions, assisting with grants administration and effort reporting, managing equipment purchases, and providing administrative support across the school. The ideal candidate will possess excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative academic environment. This position is state-funded and provides layoff rights.

Essential Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four (4) years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: providing administrative/program support to professional staff and management; performing secretarial duties in support of a manager; coordinating communications between the manager, staff and program clientele; supervision of subordinate staff; researching information from internal and external sources; OR

  • One (1) year of experience as an Administrative Assistant III in Nevada State service; OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with experience in Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Teams), Zoom, and Workday are encouraged to apply.

Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Compensation Grade

Grade 29

In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate’s qualifications, internal equity, and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.

Department Information

The School of Civil, Chemical and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) is a research-active department with over 550 B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. students, 29 tenured/tenure-track faculty, seven research faculty, and various technical staff. The department offers ABET-accredited B.S. degree programs in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering, and graduate programs in these areas that are nationally ranked by US News and World Report. In 2025 the school’s programs had annual research expenditures of over $9 million funded by external grants. It actively promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion in all its programs and activities.
