Description
ASE is a diverse school focusing on the connections between geosciences, ecology, society and Earth systems. Our approach integrates these disciplines to examine big environmental challenges both in Southeast Asia and globally. We conduct cutting-edge research on topics that include ecology, geohazards, climate change, sea-level rise, environmental sustainability, conservation of environment and biodiversity, and interactions between environment and society. The Yanyan Cheng research group is seeking a Research Fellow. This position is part of a Singapore NRF funded research project hosted by ASE. The Research Fellow will help advance research in Regional Integrated Assessment Model (IAM) modeling, especially the GCAM. This research theme can help the understanding of the complex interactions within the Land-Energy-Water nexus, and how land and water constraints shape global and regional pathways toward a resilient future. The research will be shared through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations that will highlight NTU's contributions to building a resilient future.
This is a one-year appointment and potentially renewable based on performance and funding availability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect and harmonize multi-source datasets for model calibration and validation.
- Develop new model functionalities in GCAM, with a focus on land, water, and energy systems.
- Design and conduct scenario simulations to examine how climate and resource constraints influence regional resilience pathways.
- Participate in mentoring students and RAs on integrated assessment modeling and related workflows.
Job Requirements:
- A PhD in Environmental Science.
- Posse extensive relevant experience in integrated assessment model (IAM) development and application, specifically with the GCAM. Experience should include designing scenario analyses, developing new model functionalities, and conducting model simulations to evaluate climate mitigation and adaptation pathways.
- Highly proficient in the GCAM framework, including its land-use (AgLU), water, and energy modules. Familiarity with the GCAM-USA or other regionalized GCAM variants, as well as other integrated assessment or earth system models, is highly desirable.
- Advanced programming skills in R and Python for data processing and visualization.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills in working with large-scale geospatial datasets and socio-economic databases.
- Proficiency in high-performance computing (HPC) environments and scripting (e.g., Bash).
- As the position requires stakeholder engagement in English, candidate should have good written and oral communication skills in English.
- Candidate should have published scientific papers in high-quality research journals.
- Should be enthusiastic in research and have good spirit in teamwork and collaboration. Ability to work independently, develop solutions under strict timelines, meticulous attention to detail, and excellent organizational and time management skills.
ASE seeks a diverse and inclusive workforce and is committed to equality of opportunity. We welcome applications from all and recruit on the basis of merit, regardless of age, race, gender, religion, marital status and family responsibilities, or disability.
We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
