Description
We are looking for either an Accountant II or Accountant III; offer will depend on qualifications and experience. This job description outlines requirements for an Accountant II.
Pay Range for Accountant II - $69,574-$82,620Pay Range for Accountant III - $76,705 - $91,087
Assists Controller in performing general accounting functions, contract monitoring, record maintenance and financial reporting as needed in accordance with established procedures. Performs various aspects of accounting such as A/P, A/R, reconciliation, analysis, fund management, cash management, preparing internal and external financial reports, and working with budget managers to help them understand reports and data.
- Prepares and enters journal entries associated with financial period closings.
- Performs accounting for general fixed assets; coordinates with input personnel to assure that all expenditures accounted for as capital outlay are included in the fixed assets inventory and recorded properly on college campus financial statements.
- Approves all purchase orders for accounting accuracy and according to policy guidelines.
- Performs monthly General Ledger account reconciliations.
- Assists in reconciliation of student information system to general ledger.
- Using electronic accounting spreadsheets, and other tools, creates and carries out financial accounting procedures not included in basic computer accounting services.
- Monitors revenues and expenditures against budgets and notifies Controller of major variances.
- Tracks special contracts, grants, and sponsor arrangements to assist in contract principles and administration, assists in assuring that the contract accounting process is completed through all established steps, assists in establishing and maintaining contract budgets, assists in accounting for and reporting contract status, ensures that expenditures are made in accordance with contract and grant requirements.
- Assists in preparation of financial statements for the College and affiliated entities as required for external auditors and internal management according to GAAP and GASB Standards.
- Provides support in gathering documentation, preparing schedules, and responding to requests associated with internal audits, external financial statement audits, compliance audits, and other reviews.
- Assists in the preparation of accounting, financial, and budget reports submitted to the Utah System of Higher Education (USHE), state agencies, and other external organizations.
- Responsible for overseeing the bookkeeping functions of the Davis Technical College Foundation, assisting in the preparation of Foundation financial statements, maintaining supporting accounting records, and assisting with the preparation for and coordination of the Foundation's annual financial audit.
- Assist with updating monthly budget and expense reports for College Departments and assists in preparing other internal and external financial reports as needed.
- Review purchasing card logs for account accuracy.
- Performs as back-up to other fiscal service personnel.
- Reconciles General Ledger to Student Information System and Human Resource Information Systems.
- Coordinates annual inventory of College physical assets.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field required
EXPERIENCE:
- Plus Five (5) years and up of accounting, bookkeeping or financial services experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Must have a broad base of accounting skills, including working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and government accounting standards (GASB), high math proficiencies, general office procedures and practices, and filing systems;
- Working knowledge of electronic spreadsheets, word processing, accounting software, and other computer applications.
- Ability to read, interpret, and implement federal and state requirements related to grants, donations, sales and use taxes, and educational tax credits.
- Requires advanced knowledge in the creation of spreadsheets, 10-key proficiency, typing 35 wpm and operation of various types of office equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, develop effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, students, and the public;
- Work independently and manage work assignments in a high interpersonal contact environment, deal effectively with stress caused by work load and time deadlines. Requires strict confidentiality.
