Description of Work

This position performs skilled work in planting, cultivating, and caring for shrubs, trees, plants, and grass to maintain the overall appearance of campus grounds. Responsibilities will include mowing grass using commercial mowers and tractors to keep landscaped areas well maintained; maintaining shrubs and flower beds by pruning, weeding, edging, and trimming with equipment such as weed eaters, edgers, hedgers, blowers, sprayers, and chain saws. Making minor repairs, and performing preventive maintenance such as sharpening lawn mower blades; keeping catch basins and ground gutters clean, remove broken limbs, and perform raking, edging, and weed trimming to ensure safe and attractive grounds. During ice and snow conditions, apply salt to walkways and other designated areas to help maintain campus safety. This position may require operating heavy equipment, including tractors, skid steers, backhoes, and bucket trucks, and cleaning equipment.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range: $31,200.00 – $48,810.00

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs )/Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Basic to general knowledge of the principles and techniques associated with grounds keeping and landscaping;

  • Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment necessary to the work.

  • Ability to operate the more common types of shop equipment.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

  • Physical strength sufficient to perform heavy physical tasks for extended periods of time.

Work Location: Environmental Services

Work Hours: 7 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday

Veteran’s and National Guard Preference
