Description
Note: This is an entry-level, part-time Recreation Leader position. It is a limited-service role without benefits, working up to 28 hours per week and not to exceed 1,456 hours in any fiscal year.
Under general supervision, assists in planning, organizing and conducting recreation activities for adults and children; performs related support services; and completes other duties as assigned.
- Leads recreation activities and encourages participants engagement in areas such as arts and crafts, sports, and special events.
- Sets up facilities, equipment and materials for recreation activities and special events.
- Collects fees, and issues receipts.
- Interacts professionally with parents, participants, the public, and staff.
- Performs duties in support of the Community Services Department as assigned including but not limited to city-wide events, day care, youth and adult sports, teen programs, recreation classes, aquatics, facility management, senior citizen programs, and related services.
- Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Ensures compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Assists with minor maintenance of program facilities.
- Maintains attendance records and other related program documentation.
May perform other duties in support of the Community Services Department as assigned, including but not limited to city-wide events, youth and adult sports, teen programs, recreation classes, facility management, senior citizen programs, and other related services.
Education and Experience:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent is preferred but not required. The position requires either one (1) year of college coursework in behavioral sciences, social services, or a related field OR a verifiable work record of one (1) year experience related to the duties described above, including experience working with the public.
Knowledge:
- Working knowledge of effective oral communication and interpersonal skills

Physical Requirements:
Work assignments in this classification require moderate physical exertion, including the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or climb. This position also requires extensive and repetitive physical activity involving the arms, wrists, and hands, such as writing and using a keyboard. Additionally, the role requires physical abilities necessary to read, write and communicate effectively in a work environment.
Licenses/Certificates:
A valid California Class C driver's License with a satisfactory driving record is preferred but not required.
Special Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events, as required by program needs.
