Position: Production Mining Superintendent

We are seeking for an experienced Production Mining Superintendent to join our team in Mashonaland West (Zimbabwe).

Operational Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily mining operations including hauling, dozing, road maintenance, and pit development.

  • Execute the mine plan to achieve daily and monthly production targets.

  • Allocate and optimize fleet and personnel resources to maximize productivity and minimize delays.

  • Monitor operational performance indicators (e.g., production rates, equipment utilization, cycle times) and implement corrective actions as needed.

  • Ensure compliance with design parameters, bench geometry, haul road standards, and pit development sequences.

  • Conduct pit inspections to verify safe and effective execution of mining activities.

  • Coordinate closely with maintenance to ensure equipment availability and reliability.

  • Lead daily pre-start and shift handover meetings to align teams on production goals and safety requirements.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce and promote a strong safety culture across all mining crews.

  • Ensure the SOP are properly implemented in daily operations

  • Ensure the traffic Plan is properly implemented in Operational areas.

  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company safety standards, legal regulations, and site requirements.

  • Conduct and review risk assessments and implement appropriate control measures.

  • Participate in incident investigations and drive the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.

  • Ensure all operators are competent and trained to safely operate equipment.

Environmental Responsibilities

  • Ensure mining activities comply with environmental regulations and company policies.

  • Support the implementation of dust control, water management, and waste handling measures.

  • Ensure proper rehabilitation and housekeeping of operational areas.

  • Report and respond to environmental incidents in a timely manner.

People & Resource Management

  • Supervise and lead mining supervisors, dispatch personnel, and operator crews.

  • Plan and manage shift rosters, resource allocation, and crew assignments.

  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Provide on-the-job coaching, feedback, and performance management for team members.

  • Collaborate with training teams to ensure skill development and competency assurance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Desirable but not mandatory.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in open-pit mining or large-scale earthmoving operations, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or superintendent role or relevant experience with EPSA Group.

  • Strong knowledge of drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling operations.

  • Proven ability to interpret and execute mine plans and designs.

  • Familiarity with mining equipment and production fleet operations.

  • Solid understanding of safety and environmental regulations applicable to mining.

  • Experience working in contract mining or large-scale open-pit projects.

  • Knowledge of OEM procedures and fleet types (e.g., Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi, Liebherr, Volvo).

  • Familiarity with mine planning software, dispatch systems, or fleet management tools.

  • Experience in remote or international project environments.

  • Certification in supervision, operations management, or leadership training (an asset).
