Our client is a leading international engineering consultancy specialising in the design and delivery of data centres and mission-critical facilities across Europe and globally. Due to sustained growth and an expanding project portfolio, they are seeking a Principal / Associate Mechanical Engineer to join their Dublin office.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer to work on some of the most advanced and technically complex hyperscale and mission-critical developments in the market. The role offers significant technical responsibility, direct client engagement, leadership opportunities, and a clear pathway towards senior management and director-level positions.
The Opportunity
As a Principal / Associate Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in the delivery of large-scale data centre projects requiring exceptionally high levels of resilience, reliability, efficiency, and operational performance.
You will be responsible for developing innovative mechanical engineering solutions across critical infrastructure systems, supporting projects from concept and detailed design through construction, commissioning, and handover.
This position is ideal for an individual who combines strong technical expertise with leadership capability and is looking to further establish themselves within the rapidly growing data centre sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design and delivery of complex data center and mission-critical projects.
- Develop and implement innovative solutions for HVAC systems, cooling technologies, chilled water systems, ventilation systems, and heat rejection infrastructure.
- Oversee engineering calculations, thermal modelling, equipment selection, and technical design reviews.
- Support projects throughout the full lifecycle, from feasibility and concept design through to commissioning and project completion.
- Coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams, contractors, consultants, and client stakeholders.
- Ensure designs comply with Irish, European, and international engineering standards.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers.
- Support the development of best-practice engineering solutions focused on resilience, sustainability, energy efficiency, and operational reliability.
Candidate Requirements
Essential Experience
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
- Significant experience delivering mechanical building services design within:
- Data Centres
- Mission Critical Facilities
- Pharmaceutical Facilities
- Semiconductor Facilities
- Healthcare Environments
- Other highly regulated and technically complex sectors
- Strong knowledge of:
- HVAC Systems
- Chilled Water Systems
- Cooling Technologies
- Ventilation Systems
- Heat Rejection Solutions
- Critical Mechanical Infrastructure
- Experience carrying out engineering calculations, thermal modelling, technical reviews, and equipment specification.
- Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, IES, Hevacomp, and BIM environments.
- Strong understanding of relevant engineering standards and regulations.
Leadership & Technical Capability
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Strong technical design expertise within mechanical building services engineering.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams and coordinating stakeholders.
- The ability to mentor and develop less experienced engineers.
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or progression towards professional accreditation, is highly desirable.
