Job Summary:

The Mechanical Technician is responsible for performing troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of HVAC systems, mechanical equipment, and facilities within Yellowstone National Park. This role ensures safe and efficient operations through preventive and corrective maintenance, adherence to safety standards, and support of sustainability initiatives. The position requires technical proficiency, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.

 

The Details:Position Type: SeasonalSeason Dates: December 2026 - March 2027Pay: $23.70/hour - $24.35/hourSchedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days/per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical systems, HVAC equipment, and park facilities.
  • Perform and document preventive and corrective maintenance using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Safely operate tools and equipment required for maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and cooperative work environment.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and management, demonstrating professionalism and courtesy.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision; flexibility to work overtime or nights as needed.
  • Adhere to all safety programs, OSHA and NFPA regulations, and Xanterra’s sustainability initiatives.

Qualifications

Mechanical (HVAC) Technician II

  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills for HVAC systems.
  • Proficiency in tools and equipment common to the trade.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new procedures.
  • Computer skills for operating systems and equipment software.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and NFPA safety regulations.
  • Willingness to work holidays, weekends, and flexible shifts.

Mechanical (HVAC) Technician I

  • Advanced mechanical and HVAC aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to quickly learn new skills and adapt to changing procedures.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and professional curiosity.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and CMMS systems.
  • Ability to mentor and train junior staff.

Physical Requirements include:

  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at elevations over 6,000 ft.
  • Walk up to 0.5 miles over uneven terrain; climb stairs and ladders.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Perform heavy labor outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
