Context
It is rare to find an infrastructure project immune to budget and political cycles, but this one has a career horizon stretching all the way to 2086. We are looking for an Assurance Director to join the Newcastle–Sydney HSR corridor—a 100% renewable, greenfield network that is setting a new global standard for engineering excellence.
Missions/Main Duties
In this role, you will be the guardian of the project’s technical and safety integrity. You will hold package-wide accountability for the assurance framework, ensuring that every design output is verified, validated, and traceable before it ever reaches the field. You will be the primary link to the safety regulator, driving a culture of continuous improvement across the entire design team.
Profile/Skills
Hold package-wide accountability for the design quality management system, technical assurance, and safety assurance framework.
Ensure all design outputs produced during the ECI are verified, validated, and traceable to the project's requirements baseline before release.
Establish and maintain the Project Assurance Strategy, defining independent checking hierarchies and design review gates.
Define the verification and validation methodology and manage the interface with the Owner's Independent Verifier.
Lead the development and maintenance of the package's Safety Management System (SMS).
Support the preparation of all safety case documentation, including Preliminary and System Safety Cases required for regulatory and governmental approval.
Manage independent design checking and technical review processes across all disciplines, with a focus on tunnel structural design, fire life safety, traction power, and signalling.
Act as the principal point of engagement with the safety regulator (ONRSR) and the Project Owner's Independent Verifier.
Manage the submission, review, and close-out of safety and assurance actions throughout the ECI phase.
Lead lessons-learned processes and assurance audits across the design team to identify systemic quality issues and drive corrective actions.
Ensure the programme's assurance posture continuously improves as design matures through the ECI stages.
If you are ready to put the "greenest thing possible" on your CV and lead a technical legacy that moves the needle for decades to come, we want to hear from you.
