Manulife Singapore is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Data Scientist to drive the design, delivery, and advancement of AI and GenAI solutions across the organization
As a key member of the Singapore AI team, you will partner closely with business leaders and technology teams to identify high-value opportunities, shape AI product roadmaps, translate business requirements into scalable AI solutions, and lead end-to-end delivery of AI initiatives. You will serve as the AI Product Owner for business domain AI products, working closely with business stakeholders to rapidly translate business challenges into scalable AI solutions and measurable outcomes, combining strong business acumen, stakeholder leadership, and hands-on AI expertise to deliver measurable business outcomes
This role requires deep practical experience in modern AI and GenAI techniques, including machine learning, Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), agentic AI, and AI orchestration frameworks etc. Beyond delivering AI solutions, you will help advance Manulife's AI capabilities by driving technical innovation, establishing best practices, and contributing reusable assets and standards across the global AI community
Positions Responsibilities:
Business Domain AI Solution Design and Delivery
- Partner with business leaders across functions to define domain level AI strategy, identifying opportunities where AI can drive measurable impact and defining AI product roadmap aligned with business priorities
- Translate complex business challenges into practical AI solutions, defining user journeys, AI approaches, target-state experiences, and success metrics while aligning data, architecture, and platform requirements with Data and Technology teams
- Act as the AI Product Owner and lead end-to-end delivery of AI initiatives, partnering with Business Product Owners and Technology teams to define delivery approaches and orchestrate cross-functional execution
- Navigate organizational complexity by connecting stakeholders, structuring ambiguous problems, challenging conventional ways of working, and driving improvements to AI delivery, technical capabilities, and operational effectiveness
- Rapidly prototype, test, and iterate AI solutions with business users, validating value hypotheses and refining approaches based on user feedback and operational outcomes
- Manage the AI delivery squad for domain-wide AI products, including Data Scientists, AI Engineers, AI Architects etc., driving direction, accountability, and effective collaboration with the cross-functional delivery team
- Monitor solution adoption, performance, and value impact, and drive an effective feedback loop with users to ensure sufficient business outcomes and comprehensive product roadmap with enhancements required
AI & GenAI Technical Development & Advancement
- Lead the design, development, and optimization of AI and GenAI solutions for the domain AI products, focusing on:
- Supervised and unsupervised AI models
- Statistical analysis
- Large Language Models (LLMs) for documents with complex structure
- Prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and evaluation frameworks
- Model orchestration, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop design.
- Drive the advancement of Manulife’s AI and GenAI Capabilities globally, evaluating emerging AI techniques, conducting experimentation, and identifying opportunities to bridge advanced AI techniques to business problems
- Partner with AI Engineers, AI Architects, Data Engineers, Technology teams to productionize AI solutions, ensuring sufficient scalability, monitoring, and lifecycle management
- Establish and contribute to common modelling standards, governance, and reusable AI assets, in collaboration with Regional and Global AI teams
- Serve as a technical leader and mentor within the AI team, providing guidance on solution design, AI methodologies, best practices etc.
Required Qualifications
- 6 – 8 years of experience in AI, Machine Learning, and Advanced Analytics, preferably within Consulting or Financial Services
- Advanced degree in Statistics, Math, Computer Science, Engineering, or related quantitative discipline
- Experience operating at the intersection of business and technology, translating ambiguous business challenges into scalable AI solutions and measurable outcomes
- Strong hands-on expertise across advanced AI and GenAI techniques, including agentic workflows and orchestration, AI service integration, AI platform architectures
- Advanced proficiency in in common coding language (e.g., Python, Java)
- Experience with cloud and big data platforms (e.g., Azure, Databricks, Spark, Hadoop)
- Proven track record leading end-to-end AI solution delivery, from problem framing and solution design through deployment, adoption, and value realization
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional AI initiatives involving business, technology, Data, and AI teams in complex organizational environments
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to structure ambiguity, challenge conventional thinking, and develop practical solutions to business and technical challenges
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build genuine relationships across levels, influence decisions, and communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
