Job Description:

We’re seeking a Project Engineer with a resilient, can-do attitude and the flexibility to tackle diverse tasks and projects.   This is a hands-on role with company-wide exposure.  You will build effective relationships and support the members of all departments such as production, maintenance, etc.  You will work on projects in our manufacturing sites, primarily Hatfield, PA, but will travel as needed to other sites in the US.

Bring your resourcefulness and drive to Penn Color — where every day is an opportunity to learn, grow, and lead.  Ready to take on what’s next?  Let’s make it happen together!

Responsibilities:

  • Own all aspects of planning and delivery for assigned projects, from conceptualization through construction/commissioning.
  • Prepare, review, and approve detailed engineering reports, specifications, request for proposals, construction documents, PM Schedules and Operating procedures. Identify and track potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project success.
  • Perform capacity studies of plant utilities as needed.
  • Manage vendors, contractors, and outside engineering firms to complete projects on time and within established budgets.
  • Act as a technical resource for internal customers with respect to capital project planning, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project success.
  • Utilize CAD tools to layout production lines for operator-centric functionality, including machinery, product infeed/discharge, and access platforms per OSHA standards.
  • Engineer, design, and detail parts as needed such as: custom fabricated dies, breaker plates or spare parts, dust collection hoods, equipment modifications, etc.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance and operational excellence teams on equipment operational and reliability issues.
  • Identify and submit safety hazards and/or improvements.  Implement corrections as assigned.
  • Maintain and update the company as built documentation as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET accredited university (mechanical, electrical preferred) is required. Applicants with significant hands-on experience in an industrial environment, such as plant operations or maintenance, (≥ 10 years) in lieu of a degree will be considered.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience developing and executing capital projects in an industrial setting is required. 5+ years of experience is preferred.
  • A broad understanding of batch manufacturing operations is preferred.
  • OSHA and/or NFPA safety training/certifications, such as OSHA 30 and NFPA 70E.
  • Direct working knowledge with any of the following industrial equipment: dry material blenders, bulk material handling systems/equipment, liquid mixing and blending, extrusion, boilers, process chillers, HVAC systems, dust collection, pumps, and life safety systems.
  • Working knowledge of PLC based control systems and process instrumentation.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with diverse teams and internal customers. Brings a “customer first” attitude to day-to-day work.
  • Ability to travel up to 20-30%, including some international travel.
  • Software Proficiency: Autodesk tools, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

Physical Demands:

  • Sit, stand, walk on floors, equipment access platforms, and catwalks.
  • Climb ladders/stairways in an industrial setting
  • Close/distance vision and ability to see color and adjust focus
  • Ability to engage in written/verbal communication in English with a high level of fluency.
  • Willingness to work extended or odd shifts, such as evenings and weekends, as project and operational needs may require.

Why Join Penn Color?

  • Family-owned, people first workplace culture
  • Stable, long-term employment opportunities
  • 401K with a strong company match
  • PTO to balance your life
  • Team-driven environment where your work directly impacts quality and customer satisfaction
