Salary: $115,000–$125,000 annually.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Commercial Real Estate Accounting Manager to join an established real estate ownership and development organization.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys both managing accounting functions and remaining actively involved in the work.
The company is undergoing succession planning and seeks someone who can learn the business, take ownership of accounting processes, and become a trusted long-term contributor.
This is a working manager position, not a role focused solely on delegation or supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Oversee full-cycle accounting, month-end close, financial reporting, and general ledger activities.
-
Manage owner and investor reporting for multiple properties, partnerships, and ownership entities.
-
Prepare and review partnership waterfall calculations, preferred returns, capital accounts, and investor distributions.
-
Oversee accounting for retail shopping centers, restaurant tenants, and mixed-use developments.
-
Manage CAM reconciliations, property-level reporting, and tenant expense recoveries.
-
Support development company accounting, project costs, and construction-in-progress.
-
Coordinate with external CPAs, auditors, and tax professionals.
-
Improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting efficiencies.
-
Work closely with existing leadership to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities through succession planning.
Qualifications:
-
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
-
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in commercial real estate.
-
Prior public accounting experience strongly preferred.
-
Extensive experience with partnership accounting, owner reporting, and waterfall calculations.
-
Strong knowledge of multi-entity accounting, commercial real estate ownership structures, and GAAP.
-
Experience with grocery-anchored retail centers, mixed-use developments, or other commercial properties.
-
Proficiency with MRI and/or Yardi and advanced Excel.
-
Prior accounting management or team leadership experience preferred.
-
Comfortable working independently, solving problems, and remaining hands-on with day-to-day accounting.
-
CPA designation a plus, but not required.
