SONOGRAPHER, DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING SERVICES

1) GENERAL DESCRIPTION

To perform general diagnostic ultrasound examinations in accordance with established clinical protocols and physicians' requests, ensuring high-quality imaging, patient safety, and efficient delivery of diagnostic imaging services.

2) JOB DESCRIPTION

• Perform general ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, pelvic, small parts, and other examinations within the scope of competency.
• Review patients' clinical history and examination requests to ensure appropriate preparation and imaging procedures.
• Operate ultrasound equipment effectively to produce accurate and high-quality diagnostic images.
• Ensure proper patient identification, privacy, dignity, and comfort throughout the examination.
• Position patients appropriately and explain examination procedures clearly.
• Recognize and document relevant sonographic findings for review by the reporting radiologist or medical practitioner, within professional scope.
• Assist radiologists and medical practitioners during ultrasound-guided procedures, where applicable.
• Maintain accurate patient records, examination documentation, and imaging workflow in accordance with hospital requirements.
• Perform routine quality checks of ultrasound equipment and report faults or maintenance requirements promptly.
• Comply with hospital policies, infection prevention and control procedures, radiation safety requirements where applicable, and patient safety standards.
• Collaborate with radiologists, radiographers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure effective patient care.
• Participate in departmental quality improvement activities, continuing professional development, and relevant training programmes.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Head of Department or Management in accordance with the role.

3) JOB REQUIREMENT

• Diploma or Degree in Medical Imaging, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, or a relevant recognized qualification.
• Relevant professional registration or certification, where applicable.
• Previous experience in general ultrasound examinations is an advantage.
• Fresh graduates with relevant qualifications may be considered, subject to hospital requirements.
• Knowledge of ultrasound procedures, equipment operation, and patient care.
• Good technical and clinical skills in general ultrasound.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Attention to detail and commitment to image quality.
• Patient-centred approach and professional conduct.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays, where required.
