We have an opening for an experienced theatre consultant with a strong client management, facility planning, and systems design skill set. We seek a good collaborator who has strong technical and project management skills. This role is well suited for an established mid-career theatre consultant or theatre design professional who is interested in working with a highly competent and enthusiastic team of people on interesting and worthwhile projects of all scope and budget levels.

Schuler Shook is an internationally recognized theatre planning, lighting design, and audio video design firm with projects in the United States and around the world. You will work with our team of collaborators in our Dallas office. We also share information and ideas with our offices in Chicago, Minneapolis, New York, San Francisco, and Melbourne, Australia.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

You will serve as a Project Manager and lead design contributor on a variety of theatre planning projects, leading and supervising the documentation of everything we work on, from conceptual room diagrams to theatrical lighting infrastructure and rigging and stage machinery systems design. Your work will start in planning phases and continue through construction and opening. You’ll oversee team coordination, maintain strong client relationships, assist in preparing documentation and presentation materials, and guide successful project completion. At the Senior level, this role includes managing and leading design efforts for larger and more complex projects with increased autonomy and responsibility, developing new projects regularly, preparing proposals under Partner or Principal supervision, and providing guidance and mentorship to staff.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

Your skills and abilities are more important to us than a precise number of years worked, but you will need substantial professional experience in technical theatre, live entertainment production, and/or theatre production design, with 5+ years prior experience in theatre consultancy or a similar position desired. Experience with the architectural or construction field is required at the Senior level, and highly desirable for the Project Consultant role. 

You must have previous client engagement experience and the ability to represent Schuler Shook positively in client and industry settings. You must be an excellent visual and verbal communicator, able to convey information clearly to different audiences, and be able to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines. You should be comfortable working independently, leading teams, and mentoring staff. You must have a knowledge of system design for theatrical lighting and rigging systems and a general understanding of the application of Codes and Standards to our work. You must be proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook, and Bluebeam Revu. Proficiency with Autodesk Revit is preferred.

Strong organizational skills, personal initiative, and a service mindset are required. This role will require willingness to travel.

This role may be filled at a Project Theatre Consultant or Senior Theatre Consultant level depending on the candidate’s experience, skills, and demonstrated ability to operate independently. The following salary ranges are wide to encompass those with less experience to those who are more established.

For Project Theatre Consultant: $80,000 - $97,000

For Senior Theatre Consultant: $93,000 - $125,000

This position is based in Dallas and requires regular in-office work, in line with our hybrid policy.
