Purpose of the role
To provide both corporate and indirect advisory and compliance tax services to business areas in a specific jurisdiction(s).
Accountabilities
- Management of tax risks arising from the bank's business activities, investments, and financial transactions and development of tax risk management strategies to mitigate potential tax liabilities and protect the bank's financial interests and reputation.
- Analysis of complex tax issues to support tax planning strategies, compliance matters, and risk management initiatives.
- Liaising, with tax authorities and resolving legacy tax risks.
- Identification and assessment of potential tax risks associated with complex transactions (including potential mergers, acquisitions, and restructuring) and development and implementation of tax risk mitigation strategies to minimise the potential impact.
- Stakeholder management to ensure that tax requirements and the associated risks are understood and appropriately managed, including reputational risks with tax authorities and external stakeholders.
- Analysis of relevant developments in tax law to ensure the impact on Barclays is understood and appropriately managed.
- Preparation or review of relevant tax returns in accordance with applicable tax law and agreeing compliance positions with the tax authorities.
- Preparation or review of tax accounting calculations and disclosures in accordance with applicable accounting standards for group forecasting, reporting and stress testing.
- Design and operation of tax process controls to ensure tax risk is appropriately managed and tax treatments can be supported.

In this pivotal regional role, you will oversee tax governance, risk management, compliance, and advisory activities across Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, and Taiwan, ensuring the organization maintains the highest standards of tax integrity and regulatory compliance. As a trusted tax advisor, you will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating tax risks arising from business operations, investment activities, and complex financial transactions. You will develop and implement effective tax risk management strategies, provide expert guidance on intricate tax matters, and support business leaders in making informed decisions that align with both commercial objectives and regulatory requirements.
To be successful as a Vice President Tax, you should have experience with:
Lead the management of tax risks arising from Barclays' business activities, investments, products, transactions and legal entity structures across Singapore, Taiwan, China and Australia, developing effective tax risk mitigation strategies to protect the firm's financial interests and reputation.
Provide proactive, commercially focused tax advisory support to Institutional Financial Services and Private Banking businesses on a broad range of banking, capital markets, financing, treasury, securities, derivatives, custody, clearing, and investment activities.
Analyse complex tax issues, transactions, and regulatory developments to support business decisions, tax planning, compliance requirements, restructurings, acquisitions, funding arrangements, booking models, and new product initiatives.
Advise on direct, indirect, and international tax matters, including corporate income tax, withholding tax, GST/VAT/business tax, transfer pricing, permanent establishment, treaty entitlement, stamp duties, financial transaction taxes, and tax reporting obligations across relevant jurisdictions.
