Uncover how people, places and businesses are changing
Turn rich data into stories that shape strategy
Bring fresh thinking to high-profile analytics work
See Yourself In Our Team
Business Bank Advanced Analytics & Data sits at the heart of how CommBank understands its business customers. We use data, analytics and technology to uncover what our customers need, how their behaviour is changing and where the next opportunity lies.
Within that, the Customer Analytics & Engagement team brings together customer insights, NPS, segment analytics and next-best-conversation capability to help Business Bank make smarter decisions and create better customer outcomes. We work closely with Marketing, Corporate Affairs, Product and senior business leaders, turning complex data into insights that influence strategy, customer engagement and, in some cases, the broader public conversation.
It is a team that values curiosity over simply following a process. There is plenty already in place, but also plenty to improve, rethink and build. You will be encouraged to bring ideas, challenge assumptions and help shape what good looks like.
Your Impact and Contribution
As a Senior Advanced Analytics Analyst, you will join our NPS & Segments team and take on a varied portfolio of work spanning customer, business and economic insights.
One of your key areas of focus will be the Regional Movers Index, a quarterly publication that explores how Australians are moving between capital cities and regional areas. It is a highly visible piece of work that attracts media attention and provides valuable insight into changing communities, local economies and business activity. There is also a real opportunity to take it further — improving the underlying analytics, introducing richer geospatial and demographic analysis and finding new stories in the data. More broadly, you will:
Use SQL and Python to interrogate large and complex datasets, improve existing analytical processes and build more scalable ways of working.
Take ambiguous business questions and work out the best analytical approach rather than waiting for a perfectly defined brief.
Develop insights for senior leaders and Group executives across a broad range of customer, segment and market topics.
Bring together customer, behavioural, demographic and economic data to identify patterns, trends and opportunities.
Explore geospatial and advanced analytical techniques where they add value to the problem being solved.
Build and enhance dashboards and self-service reporting that make insights easier for stakeholders to access and use.
Partner closely with Marketing, Corporate Affairs, Product, Analytics and Business Segment teams to turn analysis into clear recommendations and compelling stories.
Contribute to other evolving areas of the portfolio, including NPS analytics, segment insights and the modernisation of existing analytical tools and dashboards.
What You’ll Bring
You are someone who likes getting underneath a problem. You are curious about why something is happening, not just what the numbers say, and you are comfortable joining the dots between data, customers, business behaviour and the world around them. You will bring:
A deeply curious mindset, you question assumptions, explore what isn’t obvious and keep digging until the insight is meaningful, evidence-based and defensible.
Strong independent problem-solving skills, with the confidence to define the problem, form hypotheses and determine the right analytical approach without waiting for a perfectly structured brief.
Experience using data and analytics to uncover patterns across customer, population, economic or business behaviour and translate them into clear recommendations.
An interest in behavioural science, and in understanding what drives people’s decisions, choices and behaviours.
An interest in geospatial and location analytics, including how place, distance, mobility, migration and regional characteristics influence people, businesses and communities.
Strong commercial and economic thinking, with the ability to connect data to broader societal, market and business trends.
Strong analytical capability in SQL and Python, with R also valuable, alongside experience visualising complex relationships in tools such as Tableau, Power BI or R Shiny.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively, test alternative explanations and turn complex analysis into compelling, defensible stories for senior stakeholders.
