The Auditor-Controller’s Office is inviting applications for a motivated Accountant-Auditor I/II to join its team and play a key role in promoting accountability and transparency in County government. This position offers an opportunity to develop and apply accounting and auditing expertise in a dynamic local government setting.

As part of the General Ledger and Financial Reporting function, the incumbent performs professional-level accounting and auditing work in support of the local government's general ledger, financial reporting, and fiscal operations. The incumbent joins a team that is responsible for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of accounting records; preparing, reviewing, and analyzing financial information; performing account reconciliations; researching and resolving discrepancies; assisting with month-end and year-end closing activities; and supporting the preparation of the government's annual financial statements and related reports.

The position applies governmental accounting principles, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), applicable state and federal requirements, and established financial policies and procedures. The position works closely and collaboratively with their functional team and manager, as well, with departments throughout the organization, external auditors, and special district staff to ensure financial information is accurate, complete, timely, and properly supported.

The Accountant-Auditor classification series is flexibly staffed, with advancement opportunities. The current recruitment is being conducted to fill one full-time vacancy in the Auditor-Controller’s Office. The eligibility list established by this recruitment may also be used to fill future full-time, part-time, limited term, and extra-help vacancies for up to one year.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Experience and Education:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

ACCOUNTANT-AUDITOR I ($46.99 - $57.11 hourly) 

Pattern A:

Experience: No experience is required.

Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting or a closely related field.   If the major has been in a field other than accounting, at least 15 units of college level accounting courses must have been completed.

Pattern B:

Experience: Two years of recent professional level accounting experience equivalent to an Accountant-Auditor I.

Education: An Associate’s degree from an accredited college with major course work in accounting or a closely related field.   If the major has been in a field other than accounting, at least 15 units of college level accounting courses must have been completed.

Pattern C:

Certification: Possession of a Certified Public Accountant Certificate.


ACCOUNTANT-AUDITOR II ($49.33 - $59.97 hourly)

Pattern A:

Experience: Two years of professional level accounting and/or auditing experience, preferably in a government agency.

Education: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting or a closely related field.   If the major has been in a field other than accounting, at least 15 units of college level accounting courses must have been completed.

Pattern B:

Experience: Four years of progressively responsible professional level accounting and/or auditing experience within the last 24 months, preferably in a government agency.

Education: An Associate’s degree with major course work in accounting or a closely related field.  If the major has been in a field other than accounting, at least 15 units of college level accounting courses must have been completed.

Pattern C:

Certification: Possession of a Certified Public Accountant Certificate shall be considered equivalent to the above education and may be substituted for the two years of experience listed above on a year-for-year basis.

License or Certificate*:
A position assigned to this class may require possession of a valid California Driver's License.
*Any license, certification, registration, or appointment required for this position shall be maintained (i.e., active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County.  For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Agreed Winter Time Off:
  • 32 hours of Winter Time Off
