Staff Accountant
Commercial Express HVAC | Sterling, VA | Full-Time, Onsite
Commercial Express HVAC, a growing commercial HVAC contractor, is hiring a Staff Accountant to support our finance team's day-to-day accounting operations. You'll help maintain accurate financial records, support month-end close, and ensure compliance with accounting standards — with real opportunity to grow into construction and service-industry accounting.
This is a great fit for someone who wants broad exposure across the accounting function (GL, AP/AR, job costing, payroll).
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, and general ledger accounts
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing functions as needed
- Assist with payroll reconciliations and certified payroll reporting
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and strengthen internal controls
Requirements
Qualifications
Required
- 2–5 years of accounting experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Preferred
- Experience in construction, contracting, HVAC, or service-based industries
- Knowledge of job costing and project accounting
- Familiarity with certified payroll requirements
