CNC Programmer / Mill Machinist

Description

Prototype machinist that is self-motivated and able to accomplish a high level of work without supervision to produce machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating 3-5 axis CNC mills. You will work directly with welders on special projects including large vacuum weldments and chambers. Expected to handle all aspects of machining from start to finish, including deburring and detail work. Must maintain quality and safety standards. Experience with Solid CAM and Okuma mills desirable but not required.

  Job Responsibilities

• Person will be responsible for programming, setting up, and machining short run prototype parts assigned to them by shop supervisor.
• Complete machine setups on vertical mill centers. Make required adjustments to equipment to maintain compliance with quality standards.
• Produce NC programs from CAM software using SolidCAM software.
• Responsible for selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates according to machine capabilities and work holding. 
• Verifies conformance of finished work piece to called specifications within the required tolerances sometimes as close as +/- .0005
• Carry out daily/weekly preventative maintenance.
• Practice good housekeeping (5S)
• Communicate all defects and scrap.
• Notify supervisor of any problems in manufacturing product or safety issues
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Preference given to Candidates with:

• Strong knowledge of CAM software.
• Solid understanding of G-Code/M-Code
• Experienced in machine setup and inventive work holding solutions. 
• Excellent shop math skills - geometry and trig
• Superior knowledge of GD&T’s and ability to interpret feature control blocks (ASME Y14)
• High vacuum (UHV) experience (knowledge of high vacuum surface finish requirements);
