Description
Kick-start your career in the online gaming world and experience the very latest in technology and innovation.
We’re building experiences that wow our customers – and that starts with bold, curious people who want to do work that matters.
If you’re hungry to grow, excited by impact and ready for a challenge that will supercharge your career, this could be your moment.
As our Engineering Manager, you’ll play a key part in delivering a high‑performing engineering team that ships great Super Group Africa products, getting hands-on with leading, coaching and growing engineers, owning delivery for your team and partnering with product and senior leadership to get the right things built. Your drive and ideas will help us move faster, improve smarter, and stay ahead of the game.
What you’ll do
You’ll take ownership of work that gives us our competitive edge, including:
- Lead, coach and grow a team of software engineers
- Build a team that’s engaged, focused and proud of what they ship, where people feel safe to challenge, learn and stretch.
- Run meaningful 1:1s, give honest feedback, support career growth and have the difficult conversations when you need to.
- Own delivery for your team end to end
- Partner with product to plan, prioritise and deliver a healthy mix of features, platform work and improvements.
- Track progress, surface risks early and clear blockers, without micromanaging the engineers doing the work.
- Be accountable for the quality, reliability and operability of what your team owns
- Set the bar for engineering quality, testing and ways of working within your team, and uphold it.
- Lead your team through incidents and post-mortems, and drive lasting improvements in performance, resilience and on-call health.
- Hire, onboard and shape the team you need
- Lead hiring loops for your team, championing a high bar and a fair, inclusive process.
- Design strong onboarding so new engineers ramp up fast and feel part of the team from day one.
- Partner with product, QA and engineering leadership to do the right things
- Work closely with product owners, QA and design to shape roadmaps that balance customer impact, technical health and team capacity.
- Represent your team in wider engineering conversations and contribute to the technical and people strategy across SGA Development.
This list covers your core responsibilities – with plenty of room to stretch, explore and take on new challenges as we grow.
What you’ll bring
You’re someone who brings:
- Clear, confident communication (written and verbal), and the ability to breakdown complex ideas
- A collaborative mindset, working smoothly with cross‑functional teams to hit shared goals
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects without dropping the ball
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to high‑quality work
- Adaptability – you stay sharp, productive and positive in fast‑moving environments
- Proven experience leading software engineering teams (typically 5+ years in engineering plus 2+ years as a people manager), with a track record of growing engineers and shipping consistently
- Strong technical foundations from a hands-on software engineering background, with enough depth to make good architectural and trade-off calls without writing day-to-day production code yourself
Desirable skills you’ve got up your sleeve
It would be great if you also have some of the following skills:
- In-depth knowledge of sports betting markets, including odds calculation, betting types and market trends
- Previous experience in the online gaming or casino industry, with a strong understanding of player behaviour and industry regulations
- Familiarity with gambling regulations and compliance requirements in various jurisdictions, ensuring adherence to legal standards
- Experience in developing and executing customer retention strategies
- Experience leading agile teams in a fast-paced, product-driven environment, ideally across multiple squads or a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience in regulated industries such as iGaming, fintech or banking, and familiarity with modern cloud, CI/CD and observability practices
