Description

Provides support to operational needs of the agency, to include the Traffic Bureau and/or the Criminal Investigations Bureau.  Responsible for case management, planning processes, research, and assistance as requested.  Answer and directs phone inquiries and provide customer assistance.  Acts as court liaison between county attorney and city prosecutor’s office.  Responsible for all functions related to ARS 28-3511 to include impound hearings, daily towing reports, vendor performance reports, abandoned title verifications, annual review of legislation related to 3511 tows, and monitor the 3511 voicemail and email.

This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position.  The following functions do not identify all duties performed by the incumbent. Other duties and responsibilities will be performed as assigned.

  • Performs as county attorney/court liaison by working with the county attorney’s office and city prosecutor’s office, preparing and filing cases. Inclusive of timely distribution of all Discovery items to the various MCAO Bureaus and/or City Prosecutor’s office. Coordinate efforts to obtain additional information and discovery as requested by attorneys.  
  • Prepare major case reports.
  • Works with primary investigators or case officers to ensure all requests for evidence analysis are managed and coordinated in a timely manner.  
  • Manage case status in the records management system and directs cases and incoming information to appropriate personnel for follow up and review. Completes supplemental reports or scans in pertinent documents regarding status updates and dispositions. Enters supplemental criminal reports.   
  • Provides support by running criminal histories, and other requests through ACJIS.  Obtains any additional supporting documents required (outside agency reports, court records, medical records, motor vehicle records, etc.).  Research names, addresses, and phone numbers to assist the primary investigator or Officers through various agencies and resources.   Prepares submittal sheets and compiles all pertinent documents prior to submittal for prosecution.  Maintains contacts with outside agencies to facilitate the exchange of information among agencies (intelligence meetings, contacts, training, and resources). 
  • Performs various administrative duties, answering telephone calls, processing mail, typing; maintaining office machines; providing technical support.  Assist in updating forms to remain current with new laws. 

  • Formal Education/Knowledge:  Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature that may be obtained with six-months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency.  Community college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources.  Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
  • Experience:  Minimum one year experience in a related field.
  • Certifications and Other Requirements:  Valid Driver's License.
  • Reading:  Work requires the ability to read budget instructions, reports, strategic planning documents, correspondence, software manuals, management books, trade journals, and policies at a college level.
  • Math:  Work requires the ability to perform basic and general math calculations averaging response times, finding increases/decreases, calculating percentages, and creating charts at a college level.
  • Writing:  Work requires the ability to write memos, letters, reports, e-mail, grant proposals, award nominations, performance appraisals, correspondence with customers, policies, newsletter, and newspaper articles at a college level.
  • Managerial:  Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others but may provide advice/direction to an employee with less experience/skill or tenure.
  • Policy/Decision Making:  Moderate - The employee normally performs the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies.  There is a choice of the appropriate procedure or policy to apply to duties.  More complex work as well as decisions with more significant impacts may be reviewed prior to being finalized.
  • Technical Skills:  Limited Application - Work requires a comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • Interpersonal/Human Relations Skills:  Moderate - Interactions may involve support of controversial positions or the negotiation of sensitive issues or important presentations.  Contacts may also involve stressful, negative interactions requiring high levels of tact and the ability to respond to aggressive interpersonal interactions.
  • Obtain A-Level Terminal Operator Certification within six months of hire.
  • Complete patrol and investigations ride-alongs and become familiar with Records Unit operations.
  • Become familiar with court liaison, DPS laboratory, CPS, case assignment, case update, and activity note procedures.
  • Review the Goodyear Police Department Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Learn to use available investigative and crime scene equipment.
  • Complete an approved basic crime scene photography course.
  • Attend West Valley Detectives meetings.
  • Submit required supplemental reports within 24 hours.
  • Demonstrate effective communication, teamwork, and support when working with employees and supervisors.
  • Safely and efficiently operate assigned vehicles while practicing good driving habits.
  • Receive an overall rating of “5” or higher at the three-month, six-month, and 12-month trial-period evaluations.
