As part of a major expansion of its research programs in Nursing, the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa invites applications for Assistant Professor – Tenure Track.

 

Founded in 1933, the School of Nursing is distinguished by its diverse epistemological positions and strong research intensity. It enjoys a national and international reputation for excellence in research and teaching in a dynamic working environment. The School of Nursing is one of the Faculty’s largest schools, with over 1,600 undergraduate students, approximately 200 master’s students and 60 doctoral students. All programs are offered in both official languages (French and English), with students able to complete their degree in the language of their choice. 

 

The School is seeking professors whose contributions to the discipline and profession of nursing are well established or emerging. These contributions should be reflected in the domains of research, teaching, practices and/or leadership. 

 

The School of Nursing includes formal partnerships with all of Ottawa's major health care institutions to enhance research capacity and provide students with unparalleled clinical experiences. The School of Nursing is located within the Faculty of Health Sciences, which includes four other health-related schools (Interdisciplinary School of Health Sciences, School of Human Kinetics, School of Nutrition Sciences, and School of Rehabilitation Sciences), creating an environment conducive to interdisciplinary research activities.

Title of the position: Assistant Professor 

 

Duties: Academic staff functions include, in varying proportions:

• teaching;

• scholarly activities such as research, artistic or literary creation, or professional work;

• academic service;

• graduate student supervision.

 

Terms: New tenure-track position

 

Wage:  Salary scale for an assistant professor starts at $99,377 (as of May 1, 2025).

Skills requirements:

• Education:

• • BSc Nursing / Bachelor of Nursing

• • PhD in Nursing or related field

• Work experience:

• • Demonstrated clinical practice experience in nursing

• • Demonstrated or emerging research program in a field of significance to nursing

• • Demonstrated or emerging record of clinical-, undergraduate- or graduate-level teaching and training

• • Demonstrated involvement in service to the field of nursing and/or community

• • A member in good standing of the College of Nurses of Ontario (or eligible to become registered in Ontario and a member in good standing in their current jurisdiction)

• • Excellent communication skills are preferred in both English and French. Active knowledge of one’s official language (French or English) and passive knowledge of the other language will be considered and are required for tenure.
