What You Will Do
The Director of Electrical Engineering is responsible for leading Viken Detection's Electrical Engineering organization across all product lines, including vehicle scanning systems, handheld imaging systems, analytical instruments, and next-generation inspection technologies. This leader drives electrical architecture, product development, system integration, reliability, manufacturability, and regulatory compliance while developing a world-class engineering team.
This role provides technical leadership, people management, and project oversight while partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative, reliable, and manufacturable products.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Electrical Engineering team, including hardware, controls and embedded electronics engineers.
- Own electrical system architecture across all product lines.
- Lead development of:
- Next-generation X-ray generation technologies
- High-voltage X-ray generation systems.
- Detector and acquisition electronics.
- Motion-control systems.
- Power distribution systems.
- Embedded controllers and safety circuits.
- Vehicle and mobile platform electrical integration.
- Guide design reviews, risk assessments, and engineering decision making.
- Ensure designs meet performance, reliability, cost, safety, and manufacturability requirements.
- Support engineering execution from concept through production release.
- Balance technical priorities across multiple concurrent development programs.
- Ensure timely completion of engineering deliverables, milestones, and design validation activities.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and safety standards
- Support design verification, validation, qualification, and certification activities.
- Support supplier qualification and technical oversight of key electrical suppliers.
- Champion DFMEA, electrical design reviews, reliability engineering, and design-for-serviceability practices.
- Drive improvements in product reliability, maintainability, and lifecycle cost.
- Serve as the primary electrical engineering representative with customers, partners, and regulatory bodies when required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required; Master's degree preferred.
- 12+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience in product development environments.
- 5+ years of engineering leadership experience.
- Strong background in electronics design, product development, system integration, and engineering project management.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage technical projects, and collaborate across multiple functional areas.
- Experience with industrial equipment, imaging systems, security systems, medical devices, aerospace, defense, or similar industries.
- Enjoys hands-on lab work testing and validating new hardware designs.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to influence across organizational boundaries.
- Strong decision-making and prioritization skills.
- Hands-on leadership approach with ability to operate at both executive and technical levels.
Bonus Skills: FCC/CE Compliance experience preferred, FPGA design (Verilog preferred) and verification, High voltage design experience preferred (<10kV).
