Director, Data Governance Product Data

Job Description Summary:

The Director, Data Governance Product Master Data is accountable for the strategic governance, quality, compliance, stewardship, and lifecycle management of product master data across the enterprise. This role establishes governance frameworks, processes, standards, controls, and stewardship practices to ensure product master data is trusted, accurate, consistent, secure, and fit for business use. 

 

The Director partners with business leaders, supply chain, commercial, digital, analytics, regulatory, and technology teams to drive enterprise-wide data governance adoption, improve data quality, mitigate data-related risks, and enable strategic business outcomes through effective data management. 

 

This role serves as the senior business owner for product data governance and chairs governance forums that establish accountability, resolve data issues, and monitor data performance across the enterprise. 

Function Related Activities/Key Responsibilities:

• Data Governance Leadership 
  • Define and execute the Finished Goods Data Governance strategy, operating model, roadmap, and maturity plan. 
  • Establish policies, standards, business rules, controls, and stewardship accountabilities for Finished Goods master data. 
  • Lead governance councils, working groups, and stakeholder forums to drive alignment and decision-making. 
  • Ensure enterprise-wide adoption of data governance practices and compliance with established standards. 
  • Serve as the senior escalation point for data governance, data quality, stewardship, and data policy issues. 
  • Drive governance integration across Product, Supply Chain, Commercial, Regulatory, Finance, and Digital domains. 
  • Define and monitor governance KPIs, quality metrics, stewardship effectiveness measures, and compliance reporting. 
• Data Quality & Stewardship 
  • Establish data quality frameworks, controls, monitoring, and remediation processes. 
  • Partner with Data Quality, Analytics, and Data Operations teams to proactively identify and resolve data issues. 
  • Define critical data elements, quality thresholds, business rules, and issue management processes. 
  • Lead stewardship communities and ensure clear ownership and accountability across data domains. 
  • Promote data literacy and governance awareness across business functions. 
• Enterprise Data Management 
  • Ensure governance alignment across master data, metadata, reference data, hierarchies, and related information assets. 
  • Drive standardization of Finished Goods data definitions and business processes globally. 
  • Ensure governance requirements are embedded in business processes, platforms, integrations, and transformation initiatives. 
  • Collaborate with enterprise architecture and technology teams to support scalable data management capabilities. 
• Strategic Business Partnership 
  • Partner with executive leadership to align data governance priorities with business objectives. 
  • Support major transformation programs requiring Finished Goods master data. 
  • Influence investment decisions related to data management capabilities, governance tooling, and operational processes. 
  • Represent Finished Goods data governance in enterprise data management forums and strategic initiatives. 
  • Provide thought leadership on emerging governance practices, regulatory expectations, and industry trends. 
• Risk & Compliance 
  • Ensure adherence to enterprise data policies, regulatory requirements, and internal controls. 
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with data quality, security, privacy, and compliance. 
  • Support audit activities and governance reviews related to Finished Goods data assets. 
  • Drive continuous improvement of governance processes and controls. 
• Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for executive stakeholders and business partners. 
  • Translate complex data concepts into clear business value propositions. 
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration across technology, data governance, analytics, and external partners. 
• People & Program Leadership 
  • Provide leadership to product analysts, data stewards, and supporting resources. 
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. 
  • Drive adoption of Agile and product-centric ways of working. 

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Management, Business, or related field required 
• Master’s degree (MBA, MS in Data/Analytics, or equivalent) preferred 
  
  Related Work Experience:

• 10+ years of experience in data management, data governance, or data product management 
• 5+ years leading enterprise-scale data products or MDM platforms 

• Experience with global master data environments and industry data standards (GS1)  

• Proven track record managing cross-functional initiatives with business and technical stakeholders 

• Experience in consumer goods, beverage, or highly matrixed global organizations preferred 
  
  Functional Skills:

• Technical & Data Expertise 
  • Deep understanding of Master Data Management (MDM) concepts, tools, and best practices 
  • Experience with data mapping, data modeling, and reference data frameworks 
  • Knowledge of data integration architectures (APIs, ETL/ELT pipelines, data lakes/warehouses) 
  • Familiarity with data quality, metadata management, and data governance platforms 
• Product & Delivery 
  • Strong product management skills (roadmap, backlog prioritization, user stories, KPIs) 
  • Experience with Agile, Scrum, or hybrid delivery models 
  • Ability to balance strategic vision with operational execution

Pay Range:

United States: 164,000 - 193,000 USD

Base pay offered may vary depending on geography, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position, is offered.
