Responsible for planning, developing and expanding existing engagement programs in sustainability (such as Sustainable Workplace Certification, Sustainable Events Certification, Sustainability Projects Fund, etc.) and manage their suite of volunteers. Develop additional engagement programs, based on the needs. Work closely with the Student Housing and Hospitality (SHHS) to conduct engagement activities and enhance the sustainability aspects of SHHS operations.

  • Promote these programs throughout the University and beyond, with a specific focus on the SHHS population, and organize recurring mobilization activities. For example, deliver presentations about sustainability to new students in SHHS.
  • Strategically align the engagement activities to make sure they directly support the fulfilment of the Climate & Sustainability Strategy, contribute to McGill’s STARS sustainability rating, and help maintain Fairtrade status across McGill’s campuses.
  • Integrate sustainability into orientation activities.
  • Meet with and encourage Residence Life Facilitators (RLF’s) to hold sustainability-themed events throughout the year.
  • Liaise with other internal units and external organizations, when appropriate.
  • Ensure that major events at McGill – especially the ones held in Residences and Dining Halls – go through the McGill Sustainable Events Certification.
  • Work closely with the SHHS staff and students to ensure that the unit’s operations are enabling progress towards the objectives of McGill’s Climate and Sustainability Strategy.
  • Leverage existing internal and external funding opportunities to increase the sustainability aspects of the SHHS operations.
