Onsite Role

The University of Miami Information Technology & Systems Department has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Sr. Audio Visual Technician to work in Coral Gables, Florida.

The Sr. Audio Visual Technician provides audio-visual services and systems support in classrooms and other learning spaces. Additionally, the incumbent sets up, operates, maintains, and repairs equipment used to enhance live events, such as microphones, video recorders, projectors, lighting, and sound mixing equipment. This employee also records meetings, seminars and presentations, operates spotlights, adjusts amplifiers, coordinates graphics used in displays, and provides technical support for teleconferences, webinars, and distance-learning classes. The Sr. Audio Visual Technician edits, copies, and stores videotapes and DVDs, tracks inventory of equipment, and orders supplies.

Core Responsibilities:                                                                                                       

  • Assists Miami Herbert Business School (MHBS) faculty and speakers with the use of audio-visual devices and presentation software.

  • Ensures that equipment used for presentations is correctly configured and operating properly.

  • Arranges for and supervises both periodic maintenance and repairs of all audio-visual equipment.

  • Records lectures and guest presentations.

  • Conducts basic video editing and posts recordings to University websites.

  • Provides group and individual training related to the use of University audio-visual equipment.

  • Documents and maintains procedures related to the use of all audio-visual equipment.

  • Keeps all audio-visual equipment areas neat and well ordered.

  • Ensures that audio-visual equipment is kept current and meets the changing audio-visual needs of the University.

  • Keeps abreast of current audio-visual technologies and practices.

  • Works with MHBS IT staff to maintain a listing of all University audio-visual equipment.

  • Coordinates with MHBS IT staff to ensure that proper levels of audio-visual consumables are kept in stock.

  • Recommends improvements to classrooms and other learning spaces.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions

  • Provide routine equipment checks and general maintenance for all AV related equipment and make recommendations for advanced issues that will require further outsourced vendor work.

  • Document and maintain procedures related to the use of all audiovisual equipment.

  • Assist with the preparation and delivery of faculty training initiatives for all newly integrated higher education technology, to promote better adoption rates.

  • Provide training resources to the MBS Service Desk for all related venue/classroom technologies and assist with the quality assurance of complex event support setups.

  • Liaison with external clients regarding MBS AV support, including conducting walkthroughs and price quoting as needed.

  • Assist in facilitating and maintaining Service Level Agreements and Contracts, as needed.

  • Render department reporting and documentation as necessary, including but not limited to regular inventory and presentation of information.

  • Assist with adhering to university procurement practices as necessary.

  • Assist with quality assurance of all technology integration work being conducted.

  • Position requires a flexible schedule as weekend weekly night events are conducted.

  • Travel to satellite facilities.

  • Assist IT Manager with the hiring, training, and work assignment for all student AV technicians.

  • Provide training resources and guidance support to all student technicians.

  • Work with UM vendors and stakeholders to makes appropriate recommendations for equipment upgrades and new AV designs.

  • Conduct AV walkthroughs with internal/external clients and provide quotes if necessary.

  • Creates awareness of newly integrated higher education technology to promote adoption.

  • Assist with adhering to university procurement practices as facilitate any AV related purchases

  • Render department reporting and documentation as necessary, including but not limited to, regular inventory and presentation of information.

  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :                                                                                                                

  • Associate Degree in relevant field, Bachelors degree preferred

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

  • Valid unrestricted Florida Driver's License is required for travel to satellite facilities.

  • Knowledge of Crestron control systems, live-stream services, and digital signage applications.

  • Experience in conducting/overseeing multimedia production for large events that include overflow and live-streaming.

  • Previous AV Integration experience/certification, including knowledge of Crestron control systems design and/or programming, preferred.

  • Live technical event support, including usage of Audio and Video medium related equipment, preferred.

  • Previous experience with Higher Education Technology, preferred.

  • Ability to travel locally between University facilities required.

  • Ability to work non-regular hours (evenings, nights, weekends) as required.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with team, core functional leaders, subject matter experts, clients and end-users.

  • Ability to communicate ideas effectively and provide solutions.

  • Demonstrated facilitation/training skills.

  • Must be an effective communicator with excellent verbal and written English skills.

  • Must have knowledge of Mac OS & Windows operating systems.

  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds.

  • Ability to function under close deadlines with minimal supervision.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with coworkers and clients.
