Role Summary:
The Software Engineer builds and maintains the APIs, workflows, integrations, and tooling behind underwriting and policy administration. Embedded in an engineering team under an Engineering Team Lead, they take ownership of the full lifecycle of their work — implementation, testing, and operational support — while learning the insurance domain and growing toward independent delivery. Accountable for delivering their assigned work with quality.

Reporting and Scope:

Reports to: Engineering Team Lead.

Works with: Engineers on the team, the Delivery Lead and underwriting/business stakeholders, and the internal systems and external vendors they integrate with.

Relationship to the career framework: On the Software Engineer Levels ladder; this description covers SE1–SE2 growing toward SE3.

How the role fits the operating model:

The Software Engineer is on the supply side of the prioritization triangle, doing the build. They turn the requirements the Team Lead and Delivery Lead bring into working software on the policy administration platform, and learn the insurance domain — quoting, binding, endorsements, rating, forms, and policy lifecycle — that makes the work make sense.

Key responsibilities:

Build and maintain. Builds and maintains APIs, workflows, integrations, and tooling supporting underwriting and policy administration systems.

Writes modular, maintainable code, proactively asking for help when needed.

Implement operational workflows. Works closely with engineering leads and underwriting/business stakeholders to implement operational workflows. Integrations. Contributes to integrations between internal systems, external vendors, and policy administration platforms.

Production support. Participates in debugging, testing, automation, and operational support for production systems.

Tooling. Helps improve internal engineering tooling and developer workflows.

AI-assisted engineering. Uses AI-assisted engineering workflows daily (Claude Code and similar) to improve development speed and quality.

Learn the domain. Learns insurance domain concepts including quoting, binding, endorsements, rating, forms, and policy lifecycle.

Ownership in ambiguity. Eager to learn quickly, takes ownership, and helps turn evolving requirements into practical technical solutions; comfortable jumping into unfamiliar problems with support from the team.

On the Software Engineer ladder, the role is expected to demonstrate the five competency dimensions at SE1–SE2 and grow them toward SE3:

Technical Ability. Implements tasks, bug fixes, tests, and documentation; writes modular, maintainable code with guidance; grows toward independently delivering features and components and taking operational responsibility.

Critical Thinking. Changes approach in response to new information and looks for the simplest solution; grows toward taking loosely defined requests and making reasonable decisions fairly independently between check-ins.

Organizational Contribution. Active participant in team rituals and organization events, sharing observations and feedback; grows toward helping onboard new hires and participating in recruiting.

Business Impact. Delivers assigned stories on time and contributes ideas in technical discussions; grows toward understanding where their work fits the business and monitoring the metrics that matter to it.

Qualifications:
1–3 years of software engineering experience.
Strong Python or JavaScript/TypeScript fundamentals.
Experience building or maintaining APIs, workflows, integrations, or internal tooling.
Ability to deliver assigned features and components with moderate independence.
Comfortable working in evolving requirements and asking thoughtful clarifying questions.
Experience with testing, debugging, automation, monitoring, and production support practices.
Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools; Claude Code experience strongly preferred.
Interest in learning or applying insurance, underwriting, or policy administration domain knowledge.

Candidates should be comfortable with an on-site presence to support collaboration, team leadership, and cross-functional partnership.

Pay Details:

The base compensation range for this position is $95,000 - $120,000. This range reflects Acrisure's good faith estimate at the time of this posting. Placement within the range will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skills, experience, qualifications, location, and internal equity.
