Safety Coordinator and Right of way Assistant
MAGNOLIA ELECTRIC POWER SUMMIT, MS
1 POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for all Cooperative employee and member safety.
2 POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
(a) Responsible for knowing and complying with the MEP safety rules, procedures, safety policies, and bulletins; to include, NESC, OSHA, DOT and any pertinent rules and standards that may apply to employees, members, and community in general. (b) Responsible for investigating all accidents, which may include vehicle accidents, employee accidents, electrical contacts, and any other accident which may be a "near-miss" or require further investigation. (c) Responsible for CPR / First Aid training. (d) Responsible for hazardous waste management (excluding PCBs). Stays informed of EPA and other agency rules and laws. (e) Creates, coordinates, and presents safety programs for all local schools, to include the monthly programs. (f) Creates, coordinates, and presents safety programs for all inside employees, to include the monthly programs. (g) Creates, coordinates, and presents safety programs for all first responders, to include the monthly programs. (h) Maintains Industry Contacts to stay better informed on safety equipment and their proper use. (i) Provides needed assistance in emergency situations. Right of Way Assistant (j) Evaluating contractor compliance including, but not limited to, adherence to ANSI A300 clearance issues, and productivity monitoring and goalsetting. (k) Monitoring substation reliability, collection substation completion data, and post work auditing. (l) Performs other duties as assigned. (m) Evaluating timber and new lines as the Right of Way (ROW) assistant. (n) Answer phone calls from members on Right of Way questions and complete field inspections as needed.
3 POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
(a) EDUCATION:
A high school diploma is mandatory. Additional education or training in electric utility operation, safety engineering, and right of way fields is highly desirable. There will be a program of continuing education in related safety programs and procedures. Exceptionally favorable experience may be considered for a portion of the education requirements.
(b) ATTITUDE:
Must believe in, be sympathetic with, and be interested in furthering the Cooperative's objectives. Must possess a strong desire to promote and produce good safety practices to employees and public in general. Should do all possible to furnish leadership and effective administration as an example for all cooperative employees.
4 PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Dependability, honesty, and good health are required. A high degree of integrity, pleasant disposition and extreme tact are absolutely essential. Must be able to make decisions in the best interest of the Cooperative regardless of the circumstances. Must be able to handle numerous assignments simultaneously without becoming distressed and to handle confidential information with judgment and discretion.
5 ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
(a) Must possess a valid Driver's License. (b) Must be able to work with all cooperative employees in the best interest of the Cooperative. (c) Must be able to work eight hours a day, five days a week. (d) Must be able to work after regular working hours, as needed, due to electrical outages, etc. (e) Must be able to read and write programs to cover the needs of safety for all employees, customers, and the general public. (f) Must be able to meet the general public well and answer questions concerning MEP's policies and procedures. (g) Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written. Must be able to work well with diversified groups as well as individuals. (h) Must be able to gain and maintain respect from and to fellow employees. (i) Other duties as trained.
1 ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Works both outside and inside. Must be able and willing to work outside under inclement weather conditions.
2 PHYSICAL:
Must possess manual dexterity and visual acuity, as well as the ability to listen and communicate orally and use hands, stand for periods of time, walk, sit, bend, stoop, squat, lift and carry between 50-75 pounds, twist, balance, kneel, and crouch.
Manual dexterity and visual acuity are required to drive the vehicle to and from the job.
Must have the ability to detect and communicate hazardous situations, either while presenting safety programs, performing safety inspections, and/or conducting accident investigations.
Must have the ability to stand and walk to observe crews and present safety programs on safety procedures.
Must have the ability to sit in a vehicle to drive and/or ride to various construction, service, or right-of-way sites. The average number of miles and the amount of time driving/riding varies depending on the number of sites to be visited each day.
Must have the ability to bend, stoop, squat, lift and carry between 50-75 pounds, twist, balance, kneel, and crouch while conducting and/or presenting safety programs, performing safety inspections, and conducting accident investigations
