Please note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

## What you’ll do:

The Facilities Engineer provides engineering and technical leadership for the maintenance, reliability, improvement, and long-term planning of the Horseheads Plant buildings, grounds, utilities, and facility infrastructure, encompassing approximately 181,000 square feet. This role also coordinates facility projects, contractors, infrastructure upgrades, and maintenance activities to ensure safe, reliable, compliant, and cost-effective plant operations. The Facilities Engineer functions with a high degree of autonomy and technical judgment across assigned responsibilities. Using general business objectives and plant priorities, the employee identifies specific goals, solutions, technologies, equipment, and processes necessary to achieve desired results. Work is reviewed primarily for overall results, with management involvement generally required for significant business, safety, financial, or strategic decisions.

Essential Functions:

  • Facility Maintenance: Maintain and improve critical plant infrastructure and utility systems, including HVAC, plumbing, natural gas, electrical distribution, compressed air, cooling/process water loops, wastewater/waste treatment systems, fire protection systems, building systems, and other facility utilities. Identify infrastructure risks and recommend corrective actions, upgrades, or replacement. Provide technical guidance for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of plant equipment, utilities, buildings, and grounds. Support preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for critical facility assets, maintain awareness of current technologies and maintenance practices, and recommend equipment or infrastructure replacement based on condition, reliability, risk, and business requirements. Maintain and improve facility engineering documentation, including drawings, utility layouts, equipment records, specifications, manuals, inspection records, and infrastructure asset information. Ensure documentation is updated following facility modifications, installations, and major projects.
  • Capital Projects and Contractor Management: Develop, coordinate, and execute facility-related capital and expense projects, including building modifications, infrastructure upgrades, equipment installations, utility expansions, and renovation projects. Develop scopes of work, cost estimates, schedules, technical requirements, and project plans; coordinate installation and commissioning; and monitor projects for safety, quality, cost, and schedule performance. Arrange for and manage outside contractors and service providers supporting building additions, facility improvements, equipment installations, inspections, repairs, and non-routine maintenance. Ensure contractors meet applicable site safety, training, insurance, permitting, and work-control requirements before and during work execution.

## Essential Functions:

  • Facility Planning: Provide engineering recommendations to maintenance and plant management regarding the purchase, installation, relocation, modification, or replacement of equipment and facility infrastructure. Support facility layouts, equipment placement, utility requirements, and space utilization to meet current and future operational needs. Analyze current and future facility capacity requirements, including electrical power, compressed air, heating, cooling, ventilation, natural gas, water, and other utilities. Monitor energy and utility consumption, identify opportunities for conservation and cost reduction, conduct or support energy audits, maintain applicable reports, and lead approved energy-efficiency projects. Develop long-range facility and infrastructure plans, identify capacity constraints and risks, establish project priorities, and support plant growth, equipment installations, and operational changes.
  • Safety and Compliance: Support EHS requirements and programs, including MESH and ISO 14001, and ensure facility projects and activities consider applicable environmental, building, fire/life-safety, electrical, and other regulatory requirements. Coordinate required facility inspections, testing, permits, and corrective actions as applicable. Identify and address unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and facility-related hazards within assigned areas. Evaluate corrective actions for effectiveness and support applicable LOTO/energy-control, contractor safety, electrical safety, and other site safety requirements associated with facility work. Support plant emergency preparedness and business continuity activities involving facility infrastructure, including utility interruptions, electrical outages, HVAC failures, water events, building damage, and other facility emergencies. Assist with restoration planning and actions needed to safely return affected areas and systems to service.
  • Continuous Improvement: Support deployment of the Eaton Quality System and Eaton Continuous Improvement. Identify and implement improvements that increase facility reliability, safety, energy efficiency, maintainability, capacity, and operating cost performance.

What will make you successful?

An ideal candidate possesses excellent oral and written communication skills and is able to communicate technical information effectively with plant leadership, Production, Maintenance, Manufacturing Engineering, EHS, contractors, suppliers, regulatory personnel, and other stakeholders. You are able to independently identify and evaluate facility and infrastructure risks, develop technically appropriate solutions, establish priorities, and escalate significant risks that could affect employee safety, environmental compliance, production continuity, product quality, cost, or facility reliability. Effective project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple facility projects and priorities simultaneously while controlling scope, cost, schedule, safety, and disruption to plant operations will be integral to this role’s success. You exercise sound technical and business judgment when evaluating repair-versus-replace decisions, infrastructure investments, equipment upgrades, energy improvements, and long-term facility needs. You maintain critical working relationships with engineering firms, contractors, equipment manufacturers, utility providers, service companies, inspectors, and other external technical resources necessary to support facility operations and projects. Additionally, this role requires sufficient technical knowledge of building systems, electrical and mechanical utilities, applicable codes and standards, energy management, facility reliability, and evolving technologies to provide sound engineering recommendations.
