Description
Not just a job, but a career
Yokogawa, award winner for ‘Best Asset Monitoring Technology’ and ‘Best Digital Twin Technology’ at the HP Awards, is a leading provider of industrial automation, test and measurement, information systems and industrial services in several industries.
Our aim is to shape a better future for our planet through supporting the energy transition, (bio)technology, artificial intelligence, industrial cybersecurity, etc. We are committed to the United Nations sustainable development goals by utilizing our ability to measure and connect.
About the Team
Our 18,000 employees work in over 60 countries with one corporate mission, to "co-innovate tomorrow". We are looking for dynamic colleagues who share our passion for technology and care for our planet. In return, we offer you great career opportunities to grow yourself in a truly global culture where respect, value creation, collaboration, integrity, and gratitude are highly valued and exhibited in everything we do.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- Method Development & Analytical Validation
- Analyze complex customer process stream compositions (e.g., natural gas, NGL, LNG, refining cuts, petrochemical matrices) to design custom chromatographic separation methods.
- Define optimum column stationary phase chemistries, film thicknesses, particle sizes, internal diameters, and column length combinations for target separations.
- Calculate and optimize physical property calculations (e.g., Calorific Value/BTU, Density, Compressibility, Boiling Point Distributions) within GC software scripts.
- Prepare calibration standards, run repeatability and drift studies, and establish Method Detection Limits (MDL) and quantification limits for trace component analyses (e.g., trace sulfur, oxygenates, moisture).
- Column Chemistry & Preparation Oversight
- Establish technical recipes and quality control standards for column packing (packed columns) and phase coating/deactivation (capillary columns).
- Work directly with Lab Technicians to audit column preparation workflows, evaluate baseline bleed profiles, and troubleshoot column batch variations.
- Conduct root-cause analysis on column degradation, stationary phase stripping, and matrix contamination issues encountered during system testing.
- Engineering & Application Support
- Collaborate with Proposal Engineers during the bidding phase to evaluate challenging stream compositions and confirm theoretical feasibility (cycle time , Detection limits, Peak resolution, etc).
- Provide specialized analytical support to Tuning Engineers during Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) when handling difficult matrices, non-linear detector responses, or co-eluting peaks.
- Prepare standard application notes, calibration protocols, chemical safety datasheets (SDS), and analytical technical guides.
Qualification and Experience
- Education: Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related physical science.
- Experience: 4–7 years of professional experience in chromatography method development, or application engineering—with specific exposure to gas chromatography (GC).
Competencies
- Analytical Problem-Solving: Systematic, scientific approach to resolving complex separation issues, peak co-elutions, baseline drift, and matrix interference.
- Precision & Scientific Rigor: Uncompromising commitment to analytical accuracy, calibration integrity, and precise record-keeping.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to translate complex chemical principles into practical engineering inputs for technicians, tuning engineers, and project managers.
Skills
- Deep knowledge of gas chromatography principles: partition/adsorption mechanisms, column phase selection, carrier gas physics, and detector mechanics (FID, TCD, FPD).
- Familiarity with international standard test methods relevant to process industries (e.g., ASTM D1945, ASTM D5504, GPA 2261, ISO 6974).
- Hands-on proficiency with GC data handling systems, peak integration algorithms, calibration routines, and chemical safety management.
