Position Summary
Sev Rend Corporation is a leading manufacturer of flexible retail packaging and sustainable materials. We are actively seeking to fill a general laborer/packer position at our advanced production facility in Collinsville, Illinois. We are looking for a hardworking and driven individual interested in helping us uphold our longstanding commitment to our customers through quick lead times and superior quality. The Packer is responsible for safely and accurately preparing, packing, verifying, labeling, and staging finished products in accordance with work orders, packing instructions, quality requirements, and company procedures. The role supports an organized production flow while maintaining product quality, housekeeping, and safe material-handling practices.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Review the Packing Sheet, work order, checklist, and job-specific instructions before starting assigned work.
- Confirm product, material, quantities, packaging method, box requirements, labels, and shipping or staging instructions.
- Assemble and prepare boxes, skids, carts, and other approved packing materials needed for assigned orders.
- Pack finished product accurately and securely to protect it from damage and meet customer or internal requirements.
- Count, inspect, verify product during packing and promptly report shortages, defects, damage, or discrepancies.
- Apply required labels or identification and ensure completed packages are properly organized for shipment or downstream processing.
- Stage completed product in the designated area using the appropriate cart, skid, or other approved material-handling method.
- Maintain a clean, orderly work area and keep aisles, exits, and workspaces clear of packing debris and trip hazards.
- Follow required personal protective equipment (PPE), machine-safety, material-handling, and other company safety procedures.
- Use equipment only when trained and authorized. Do not bypass guards or safety devices, and report unsafe equipment or conditions immediately.
- Communicate job status, quality concerns, material shortages, and safety issues to the supervisor or designated lead.
- Perform other related packing and production-support duties as assigned that are consistent with the position and employee training.
Requirements
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. The maximum manual lifting requirement for this position is 50 pounds.
- Loads exceeding 50 pounds require approved mechanical assistance or assistance from another employee in accordance with company procedures.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the work shift, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.
- Ability to bend, reach, stoop, turn, grasp, and handle packing materials and finished products as required by assigned duties.
- Ability to push or pull carts and move materials within the employee’s safe capability and applicable workplace procedures.
- Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements associated with packing, labeling, counting, and handling product.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to read and follow work orders, packing instructions, labels, and basic written procedures.
- Ability to count accurately and perform basic job-related measurements or calculations as required.
- Ability to recognize product or packing discrepancies and communicate them promptly.
- Ability to work safely and cooperatively in a production environment.
- Prior manufacturing, warehouse, or packing experience is preferred but may not be required depending on company training practices.
Work Environment and Safety Expectations
Work is performed in a production/manufacturing environment. Employees are expected to follow all posted safety rules, required PPE practices, housekeeping requirements, and applicable equipment-specific procedures. Employees must stop work and notify a supervisor when a task cannot be completed safely, when required instructions are unclear, or when the task would require a manual lift greater than 50 pounds.
