About this role:
The Associate Principal Scientist supports day-today research initiatives and developing solutions to atypical ingredient application challenges. Providing comprehensive knowledge on applications development, this role focuses on experimentation, optimization and cross-functional collaboration to deliver innovative, customer-tailored solutions.
Accountabilities:
- Develop and test formulations to create customised ingredient solutions that meet customer expectations and project goals.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams in Innovation & R&D and Technical Service to provide technical insights that align with project objectives and specifications.
- Analyse and interpret experimental data to refine ingredient performance and scalability, suggesting solutions to management for improvements.
- Lead experiments within the team to expand the understanding of ingredient performance and combinations in diverse applications, ensuring compliance with quality, health and safety.
- Guide the preparation of technical materials to support customer presentations and product trials.
- Monitor industry trends and make recommendations to the team about implementing innovative approaches into ingredient applications research.
- Mentor junior team members, providing technical guidance and coaching to foster knowledge sharing, professional growth and best practices.
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; may be working towards a professional qualification. Master's or PhD preferred.
- 5+ yrs of hand on, industry experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of Applications Research & Deployment procedures, with full knowledge of methodologies, processes, practices, and atypical issues within applications research and development in the food and beverage industry.
- Experience within beverage or confectionary application preferred.
- Largely able to operate independently, though may seek guidance on atypical or complex applications-related issues.
- Able to coach juniors on technical and operational matters in a specialism.
- Accountable for own targets and reviewing work of juniors.
- Frequently conducts detailed analysis and investigation to identify innovative solutions for Applications Research & Deployment problems or needs, determine best options or suggest improvements to existing methods.
- This role involves initiating communication with cross-functional teams to address and resolve shared issues, collaborate on processes, and interpret or clarify technical information to enhance understanding.

When determining final compensation, we take into consideration: skillset, job scope, knowledge, prior experience, cost of living, market data, budget availability, and other factors as permitted by law.
The salary range for this position is: $71,000 - $105,000.
