Description of Work

Position will serve as Survey Party Chief in the Clinton Resident’s Office.

Applicant will perform survey work on complex construction projects, supervise survey crews and lower-level technicians, make independent decisions, and communicate effectively with co-workers, contractor's personnel, and the general public. When contract surveying is utilized, the Survey Party Chief will be responsible for reviewing the contractor’s survey submittals and providing checks of their construction layouts in the field. Applicant should be able to read, interpret, and explain such things as construction plans, contract provisions, and specification/inspection procedures. This position will be exposed to outside environmental hazards, confined areas, and may be required to work at night and on weekends. This position requires a valid driver’s license due to required occasional business-related travel and the need to operate a company or personal vehicle while conducting Specialist duties. Responsibilities may include duties such as traveling between company locations or work sites, attending meetings, training sessions, field visits to ensure correct format and that acceptable surveying standards and procedures are met. Safety Toe Shoes required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC14 $52,592 - $92,036

Management prefers applicants with the following:

• Experience using surveying equipment, instruments, levels, data collectors and GPS equipment
• Experience with mathematical functions including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry
• Experience in performing highway construction stakeouts
• Experience in conducting independent, moderately complex surveying
• Computer experience including office software and drafting software

Minimum Education and Experience

Associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology or Survey Technology from an appropriately accredited institution and seven years of progressive technician experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
