We are currently seeking a full time candidate for the position of R&D Chemist. The position is located in Kennesaw, GA and will report directly to the Director of R&D. The Chemist will be responsible for providing technical oversight, leadership, and coordination of cross-functional teams working on new product development, optimization, and production support.
The Chemist participates in experimental planning and oversees technical execution of laboratory programs. The Chemist is the primary contact for customers, coordinates with site project teams (Operations, Purchasing, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, EHS, Regulatory, etc.) and is responsible for monitoring project plan timelines, budgets, and follow-up of actions associated with the projects. The Chemist will lead and support new project evaluations. The preferred candidate will have a strong background and experience in organic chemistry and will have the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently, independently, and coordinate cross-functional project teams.
Key Duties:
- Conceptualize, formulate, develop and introduce new products based on input from sales, marketing, and management.
- This includes creating and developing new products in the following areas: aerosols and liquid cleaning chemistry, coatings, presaturated wipes, and all conductive materials.
- This includes developing applications, implementing process and quality standards for new and existing products, competitive testing and analysis, producing competitive selling information for sales force, and creating sales support materials.
- Conduct performance evaluations and re-formulation of existing products, new products and competitive products and provide technical reports of results as dictated by changing regulatory, financial and material requirements.This includes testing and verifying new and modified products with respect to performance, safety, stability, and production feasibility.
- Review and initiate specifications of both new and modified products in conjunction with product development manager and manage the files and BOM’s for all existing raw material, batching and aerosol specifications according to Quality requirements.
- Work with Operations on process modifications, trouble shooting and improvements.
- Assist Technical Service and Customer Service.
- Provide customer-specific testing as requested.
- Conduct training of distributors and sales personnel as needed.
- Interact with distributors / customers in a positive and professional manner.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organized laboratory.
- Interpret technical papers directly related to our product offering.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree,
- Degree in Chemistry/Organic Chemistry preferred
- Master’s preferred.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience.
- Strong written/verbal communication skills; demonstrates good listening and coaching skills; able to communicate and work effectively with all levels in the organization.
- Working understanding of GHS, SDS standards and creation of SDS’s
- Independent and organized work style: Effectively manages time and prioritizes work load, assumes and manages multiple tasks and projects without close supervision.
- Highly adaptable and capable of leading and facilitating change.
- Ability to make independent decisions and regularly suggest ways to improve services and processes.
- Must possess strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Ability to travel up to 10%.
