Overview
Element has an opportunity for a Mechanical Technician, who will assist with engine test cell retooling and facility setup activities. Task mostly includes plumbing, welding, machining, instrumentation and electrical. Training will be provided to fulfill our specific needs. Travel is required to help setup facility based on the engine test location in North America.
Element is a specialized automotive engine testing laboratory designed to support high-performance internal combustion (IC) engine development, validation, and production audit programs. This position will be imperative to high performance test applications of engines for General Motors.
Role will require travel, including initial 2 months at our facility in Beamsville, ON for training.
Additional travel to facilities in Dayton, OH and Bowling Green, KY.
Responsibilities
- Plumbing for coolant, fuel and water systems required for engine operation
- Welding of exhaust system and fixtures
- Repair engine test cell equipment
- Document equipment issues/repairs to assist future troubleshooting
- Perform preventative maintenance and inspection test hardware
- Assist in plant housekeeping refuse removal, and floor cleaning
- Maintain a clean & organized work area at all times: spills are cleaned off floor & equipment, tools are returned to designated areas, disposable items placed into designated bins
- Report all maintenance issues to Shift Supervisor
- All work is done according to appropriate Element procedures, using required PPE, and in compliance with Element H&S procedures
Skills / Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in automotive technology and/or mechanical technology
- Hands-on job experiece, preferably in the automotive industry
- Sound mechanical apptitude
- Previous experience in an appropriate Engineering environment is a distinct advantage
- Experience of working within a Mechanical testing environment is advantageous
- An understanding of a recognised Quality Management Systems such as ISO 17025 is beneficial
- Self motivated Technician with the ability to multi task, organise and work under the pressure of a busy commercial mechanical test laboratory
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A team player attitude
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Travel required
