This role offers the opportunity to represent Alcoa at the highest levels of government, industry, and stakeholder engagement in Spain, helping to shape the regulatory environment and support the long-term success of our business.
About the Role:
As Government Affairs Manager, Spain, you will lead the development and execution of Alcoa's government advocacy strategy across Spain. Working closely with internal leaders and external stakeholders, you will identify opportunities, anticipate challenges, and help position Alcoa as a trusted partner in advancing Spain's industrial and sustainability ambitions.
Reporting to the Director, External Affairs, Europe, you will play a key role in strengthening Alcoa's relationships with government officials, industry associations, thought leaders, and community stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute proactive government affairs and advocacy strategies aligned with Alcoa's business objectives.
- Monitor political, legislative, regulatory, and industry developments, providing strategic analysis and recommendations to business leaders.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with national, regional, and local government stakeholders, particularly within Galicia.
- Represent Alcoa with policymakers, industry associations, influencers, and external partners.
- Advise plant and regional leadership teams on government affairs matters and external engagement strategies.
- Support senior executives in interactions with government representatives, industry associations, and key forums.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure company strategies align with evolving regulatory requirements.
- Manage external advisors, consultants, and third-party partners while ensuring compliance with Alcoa's ethics and governance standards.
- Enhance Alcoa's reputation and stakeholder engagement through effective advocacy and relationship management.
What We're Looking For:
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 7 years of government affairs, public affairs, advocacy, or stakeholder engagement experience.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful advocacy strategies.
- Strong understanding of Spain's political, regulatory, and governmental landscape.
- Experience engaging with public officials, industry associations, and key external stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification from an accredited university.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in public policy, Political Science, Law, International Relations, Business, or a related field.
- Experience supporting industrial, manufacturing, energy, mining, metals, or similarly regulated sectors.
- Knowledge of the aluminium industry and sustainability-related policy frameworks.
- Fluency in Spanish and English (written and spoken).
- Knowledge of Galician is considered an advantage.
