Position Summary:
As an Energy Engineering Manager at Redaptive, you will serve as the technical engine behind our operations and sales organizations, enabling deal success by combining deep energy engineering expertise with hands-on technical sales experience. You will develop and present the technical case and project economics for Redaptive’s energy efficiency solutions directly to customers, while applying rigorous engineering judgment — project development, savings calculations, M&V protocols, and value engineering — to ensure every proposal is technically sound and commercially competitive.
This role sits within Redaptive’s Customer Operations team and collaborates directly with the sales organization, partnering with Sales Executives and third-party design and construction partners throughout the project lifecycle — qualifying opportunities, designing solutions, vetting vendors, developing proposals, and carrying projects through contract signature — while acting as an in-house energy engineering subject matter expert. After contract signature, the role leads the turnover to the operations teams responsible for project execution and provides engineering support as needed through project delivery.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Sales Engineering
- Present and create technical portions of sales presentations and proposal decks, and acts as subject matter expert, both in person with clients and supporting remotely.
- Present core contract functions, billing, O&M, M&V, audit, and construction processes at the corporate customer level.
- Conduct site walks as part of deal qualification when needed, assessing facility systems and savings opportunities firsthand to inform scoping, feasibility, and proposal development.
- Support the Sales Executive in delivering and discussing finalized proposals, presenting the technical and financial basis of the solution (savings calculations, project economics, M&V approach) and supporting finance-structure discussions
- Provide executive business review content as a SME, supporting in-person or remote presentations and discussions.
- Use screening tools to conduct technical and savings-potential analysis of prospective sites, supporting the sales team’s pipeline development.
- Be mindful of past proposals and lost opportunities where updated technology, pricing, or incentives may change project viability, and refer newly viable opportunities to the Sales Executive for pursuit
Delivery Engineering
- Manage design engineering and pre/construction partners: define project scope, objectives, pricing, and timelines; oversee work progress, providing guidance and support to ensure deliverables are completed on schedule and aligned with quality standards.
- Conduct final review and quality control of engineering calculation models, NTPs, and third-party partner deliverables prior to customer delivery, verifying accuracy, completeness, and compliance with Redaptive’s standards.
- Apply value engineering principles in collaboration with the project development team to optimize project costs while maintaining high-quality proposal standards.
- In coordination with the Sales Executive, lead the turnover of customer data, contacts, and project context to the operations teams responsible for project execution, and provide engineering support as needed through project delivery.
- Design and implement standards: create best practices and guidelines for project development across Redaptive’s energy efficiency technology solutions and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) within engineering to measure and ensure excellence in project development.
Energy Engineering Subject Matter Expertise
- Act as an in-house SME for energy engineering, providing technical expertise on savings calculations for mechanical systems (including central plant, HVAC, compressors, and industrial process equipment).
- Apply M&V protocols, ASHRAE design and audit standards, and RFP/scope-of-work refinement throughout proposal development.
- Engage in fieldwork for critical pilots, innovation initiatives, and research and development activities to maintain and expand subject matter expertise.
- Review energy audit findings and participate in partner led audits when required. Occasional direct auditing of client industrial sites. Ability to identify, develop, and scope a complete RFP for energy savings measures or facility improvement measures.
Product, Marketing & Training
- Provide voice-of-customer feedback to product and marketing teams on new products and product modifications.
- Develop and present training materials for the sales organization.
- Serve as SME for the technical portion of marketing materials and market generation campaigns.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Abilities and Skills:
- Industry-leading knowledge of electrical and mechanical construction and commercial processes, with mastery of both the construction cycle and contracting requirements for large-scale commercial energy projects.
- In-depth knowledge of savings calculations for mechanical systems, including chillers, boilers, HVAC, air compressors, and industrial process equipment.
- Preferred: in-depth knowledge of the design and savings calculations for lighting, electrical, storage, and solar systems.
- Familiarity with requests for proposals (RFPs) and scope of work refinement.
- Comfortable in customer-facing settings and motivated to drive growth.
- Experience supporting technical sales cycles, including working within structured qualification processes and developing training materials for sales teams.
- Articulate communicator able to adapt style and technical depth to any audience — from C-suite executives to facility operators and maintenance staff — with strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Salesforce (SFDC) and other sales tools.
- Analytical mindset with a keen eye for detail and a focus on quality assurance.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization abilities to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Resourceful and comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial environment.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience. Required.
