Purpose of the role

To  lead and manage engineering teams, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions, driving technical excellence, fostering a culture of innovation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to align technical decisions with business objectives. 

Accountabilities

• Lead engineering teams effectively, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture to achieve project goals and meet organizational objectives.
• Oversee timelines, team allocation, risk management and task prioritization to ensure the successful delivery of solutions within scope, time, and budget.
• Mentor and support team members' professional growth, conduct performance reviews, provide actionable feedback, and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Evaluation and enhancement of engineering processes, tools, and methodologies to increase efficiency, streamline workflows, and optimize team productivity.
• Collaboration with business partners, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure a cohesive approach to product development.
• Enforcement of technology standards, facilitate peer reviews, and implement robust testing practices to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions.

They will lead collaborative, multi-year assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialisation to complete assignments. Lead engineering teams delivering critical Business Banking capabilities, fostering a high-performing and inclusive engineering culture. Harness modern technologies including Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, Angular, React and AWS to build secure, resilient and scalable platforms across our domain-aligned architecture. Drive AI-enabled engineering practices, continuous delivery and operational excellence to accelerate value for customers and colleagues. Collaborate with Product, Architecture and business stakeholders to align technology decisions with strategic outcomes and regulatory requirements. Shape the future of Business Banking Technology through engineering leadership, talent development, financial stewardship and continuous improvement of engineering standards.

To be successful as an Engineering Manager, you should:

• Have deep product knowledge and experience of owning a technology capability and/or platform ensuring delivery aligned to agreed architecture and quality standards.
• Have experience in building high-performance teams with a culture of ownership and accountability and supporting engineers in their performance and coaching on skills leadership and growth opportunities.
• Drive the team goals forward and organise work and ensures appropriate milestones are in place.

Some other highly valued skills include:

• Previous experience building high availability systems.
• Previous experience deploying and monitoring production loads in AWS.
• Previous experience with the financial services industry is a plus but not mandatory at all.
