Job Summary:
The Human Resources and Payroll Coordinator is responsible for managing the day-to-day workflows of the HR and payroll functions. This position acts as a trusted advisor to senior leadership (including the General Manager and Assistant General Managers) while managing recruiting, benefits administration, employee relations, policy development, training, and payroll processing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Creates job postings, manages candidate screening and interviews, completes pre-employment screenings, and onboards new hires.
- Collaborates with and coaches leaders on employee relations in accordance with laws, policies and procedures.
- Prepares bi-weekly payroll which includes gathering and verifying time sheets, data entry, editing, and employee payroll maintenance. Enters, manages, and ensures data integrity within the employee information system.
- Prepares bi-weekly payroll-related payables and reports (external) including retirement contributions, employee deductions, garnishments, and federal and state tax payments. Prepares and timely files (with employees and IRS) year-end W-2s, reconciling to quarterly reports.
- Prepares quarterly payroll-related reports for the IRS, State Tax Commission, and Department of Workforce Services.
- Administers and coordinates employee benefits programs including health insurance, retirement plans, life insurance, and disability insurance. Evaluates benefits programs and costs annually to makes recommendations for changes. Keeps employees educated and informed on benefits plans.
- Facilitates training for employees and supervisors on matters pertaining to policy, procedures, and programs.
- Administers employee performance evaluation and development programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned
General Qualification Requirements
- Prior Work Experience: At least two years of previous experience in employee relations, recruiting, and payroll functions
- Education and Training: High school diploma, or equivalent, plus additional technical training in related field is required. Associates degree or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in accounting or a related field is preferred.
- Licenses, Certifications: HR certification strongly preferred (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, IPMA-CP)
Background Knowledge:
- Requires knowledge of principles and procedures for recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits
- Requires knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, HR modeling, leadership technique and coordination of people and resources
- Requires a working knowledge of accounting terminology and procedures, financial reporting, budgeting and audits.
- Requires mathematical skills and basic computer systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms and other office procedures and terminology
- Requires knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Requires skills in technical communication and analysis of technical data
