GENERAL PURPOSE
The Director of Revenue Cycle Management is a senior operational leader responsible for the day-to-day management, performance, and continuous improvement of revenue cycle functions across Broad River Rehabilitation and Aegis Therapies (collectively, the Company). Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director leads a team of billing, collections, intake, insurance verification and denial management professionals, ensuring that all claim submission, remittance, and collections activities are executed with accuracy, timeliness, and compliance across Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care, and Commercial payer types.
This role requires a hands-on leader who can both manage tactical operations and contribute to the development of enterprise-wide RCM strategy. The Director will serve as a key point of accountability for team productivity, payer performance, denial resolution, and cash collections, while collaborating closely with clinical operations, finance, and compliance to optimize the full revenue cycle continuum.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Revenue Cycle Operations Management
- Oversee the daily execution of end-to-end revenue cycle functions including charge capture, claim submission, remittance posting, denial management, appeals, and collections.
- Monitor and manage payer performance across Medicare Part A and Part B, Medicaid fee-for-service, managed Medicaid, Managed Care Organizations (MCOs), and commercial insurance.
- Ensure timely and accurate billing consistent with therapy-specific documentation requirements, including PDPM/MDS compliance for SNF settings and applicable state Medicaid billing rules.
- Serve as the primary operational escalation point for complex billing issues, payer disputes, and collections challenges.
Performance Management & Reporting
- Establish, track, and report on key RCM performance indicators including days in A/R, clean claim rate, denial rate, first-pass resolution rate, net collection rate, and cash collections against targets.
- Prepare regular performance dashboards and operational reports for the CFO and senior operational leadership.
- Identify trends in denials, underpayments, and payer behavior; develop and execute targeted remediation plans.
- Conduct root-cause analysis on billing errors, claim rejections, and payer adjustments to drive continuous improvement.
Team Leadership & Development
- Directly supervise revenue cycle specialists across both organizations.
- Build/rebuild a high-performing RCM team aligned to the Company's performance standards and culture.
- Set individual and team performance goals; conduct regular performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
- Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous learning within the RCM department.
Compliance & Audit Readiness
- Ensure all billing and collections activities comply with applicable federal and state regulations, payer contracts, and Company policies.
- Support internal and external audit processes related to revenue cycle operations; prepare audit-ready documentation and respond to payer requests.
- Identify and escalate compliance risks related to billing practices, documentation, or payer behavior in a timely manner.
- Maintain current knowledge of regulatory changes affecting therapy reimbursement and payer policy and communicate impacts to the team and leadership.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with clinical operations leadership to ensure documentation, authorization, and charge capture workflows support clean claims and timely reimbursement.
- Collaborate with Finance on cash forecasting, accounts receivable analysis, and period-end reporting.
- Work with Compliance teams on payer agreement interpretation, contract disputes, and appeal strategies.
- Support the evaluation and implementation of RCM technology, automation tools, and process improvement initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Finance, or a related field required.
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR), or equivalent certification preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive revenue cycle experience in a healthcare services setting, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Demonstrated expertise in therapy services billing (PT, OT, SLP) within post-acute settings, including SNFs, ALFs, home health, and outpatient preferred.
- Experience managing multi-payer, multi-state revenue cycle operations in a contract therapy or ancillary services environment strongly preferred.
- Track record of achieving measurable improvements in days in A/R, denial rates, and net collection rates.
- Experience with RCM technology platforms and practice management systems; familiarity with therapy-specific EMR and billing software a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, & BEHAVIORS
- Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare billing regulations, CMS guidelines, and payer-specific policies applicable to therapy services.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret A/R data, identify trends, and translate findings into actionable operational improvements.
- Demonstrated leadership ability with experience building, developing, and retaining high-performing teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present complex revenue cycle data to non-clinical and non-financial stakeholders clearly.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-moving, multi-site environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP) and experienced with RCM reporting and dashboarding tools.
