Description

Position Summary

Hive Group, a HUBZone-certified SDVOSB and multiple award-winning organization, delivers innovative solutions to address complex, mission-critical program challenges for the federal government. We are actively seeking a Director of Human Resources to lead our People Operations and support our growing business.

In this key, hands-on leadership role, you will guide and execute core HR functions across the employee lifecycle, including workforce planning, onboarding, benefits and total rewards administration, performance management, employee relations, and compliance. Working closely with corporate leadership and hiring managers, you will implement practical HR initiatives, streamline operational workflows, and ensure alignment with company culture and federal contracting standards.

Location: Hybrid (On-site at our McLean, VA headquarters with 1-2 days telework per week).

Key Responsibilities

HR Operations & Execution

  • Oversee and lead the execution of daily HR operations, serving as a primary point of contact for employees and managers regarding HR policies, procedures, and initiatives.
  • Support workforce planning and organizational development efforts in alignment with business growth and contract requirements.
  • Administer day-to-day employee benefits, lead annual open enrollment, and support compensation market research and total rewards reviews.
  • Facilitate end-to-end new hire onboarding and orientation programs to ensure a seamless transition and drive employee retention.

Leadership and Managerial Oversight

  •  Lead, engage, and support internal department staff in department strategy development, resource allocation, and goal execution.
  • Provide Hive Executive Leadership with recommendations to execute HR strategies, workforce planning, and organizational development initiatives.
  • Drive change management initiatives and foster an inclusive, high-engagement corporate culture across on-site and client-site personnel.
  • Champion corporate culture initiatives, employee engagement activities, and inclusive workplace practices across both on-site and client-site personnel.

Performance Management, Culture & Employee Relations

  • Coordinate the company-wide performance review cycle, providing guidance to supervisors on feedback delivery, goal setting, and employee recognition.
  • Serve as an initial point of contact for employee relations inquiries, facilitating constructive conflict resolution and escalating complex matters to leadership as appropriate.
  • Support professional development programs, employee training initiatives, and career progression tracking.
  • Administer employee feedback mechanisms, including pulse surveys and exit interviews, summarizing trends for leadership review.

Compliance, Systems & HR Reporting

  • Ensure strict compliance with local, state, and federal labor laws, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) regulations, and federal contractor requirements (e.g., OFCCP, Affirmative Action Plans).
  • Maintain, optimize, and leverage HRIS platform (Workday) to automate workflows and maintain data integrity.
  • Supporting corporate reporting, payroll, and annual compliance functions.
  • Establish key HR metrics, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms to track retention, turnover, and program effectiveness to drive data-informed decision-making.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Experience: Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive, comprehensive HR and operational experience covering the full employee lifecycle.
  • Lead/Mentorship Capability: Demonstrated experience serving in an HR Lead or team lead capacity, with a track record of guiding internal staff and supporting employees across a company environment.
  • Contractor & Regulatory Knowledge: Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment regulations (e.g., FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII) and familiarity with federal contractor workplace standards.
  • Systems Proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency as admin for enterprise HRIS platforms.
  • Core Competencies:
    • Proven capability to balance operational execution with strategic support in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a detail-oriented approach to HR data and compliance.
    • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills across all organizational levels.
    • Demonstrated discretion in handling sensitive, confidential personnel and business information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting workforce operations within the federal government contracting (GovCon) ecosystem.
  • Active professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR).
  • Familiarity with federal contractor compliance reporting, such as OFCCP guidelines, Affirmative Action Plans (AAP), or Service Contract Act (SCA) administration.
  • Experience leading Human Resources or Talent Acquisition teams in a managerial capacity.
  •  Advanced user or administrative experience configuring workflows and custom reports in Workday or UKG.
  • Experience participating in annual benefits renewals, market compensation benchmarking, or policy development.
  • Proven experience building and leading an HR function within a small business supporting federal government clients.
