About The Organization
Product Engineering is a unified team responsible for the engineering of Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms. This includes product engineering, media engineering, quality assurance, engineering behind personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity.
Job Summary:
At Disney, the Metadata Authority team is building the intelligence that transforms raw video, artwork, and text into rich, structured authoritative metadata—the kind that makes it possible for millions of viewers to discover exactly what they love.
As a Machine Learning Engineer, you’ll take the latest advances in Generative AI and multimodal models and put them into production at a global scale. Your work will make our content more searchable, more personalized, and more accessible—whether it’s surfacing the perfect moment in a live sports game, generating a descriptive scene caption for accessibility, or powering a recommendation that sparks someone’s next obsession.
You won’t just train models—you’ll own the pipelines, services, and operational tooling that let them run reliably and effi ciently for some of the most iconic brands in entertainment. You’ll work with data from across the Disney ecosystem, collaborate with platform teams building our medallion-architecture data foundation, and return enriched, validated metadata into our Source of Truth systems for use in discovery, personalization, compliance, and monetization.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:
-Focus on major areas of work, typically 20% or more of role

- Build and maintain multimodal AI pipelines for extracting metadata from video, artwork, and text, including captions, object detection, scene classifi cation, summarization, and sentiment analysis.
- Develop low-latency inference services to process live content without blocking downstream workfl ows.
- Integrate Gen AI capabilities into production systems using AWS (SageMaker, Lambda, S3, Glue) and distributed processing frameworks where applicable.

- Collaborate with data platform teams to consume curated data from the organization’s medallion-architecture pipelines and return enriched metadata for Gold-layer publishing.
- Implement quality control, validation, and governance processes for AI-generated metadata to ensure accuracy, compliance, and auditability.
- Automate workfl ows and CI/CD pipelines for model training, deployment, and monitoring.
- Drive observability, alerting, and operational excellence for AI services at scale.
Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:
Minimum and Preferred. Inclusive of Licenses/Certs (include functional experience as well as behavioral attributes and/or leadership capabilities)
- 3+ years of backend or ML engineering experience, with strong profi ciency in Python and/or Java.
- Proven track record deploying AI/ML models into production, with emphasis on multimodal and Gen AI systems.
- Profi cient knowledge of AWS services (SageMaker, Lambda, S3, SQS, Glue) and experience with real-time and batch processing.
- Understanding of ML lifecycle, including inference optimization, monitoring, and model versioning.
- Experience integrating AI services into production APIs and content workfl ows.
- Profi ciency with relational and NoSQL databases for metadata storage and retrieval.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with vision-language models (e.g., CLIP, BLIP-2), LLMs, or speech-to-text systems.
- Knowledge of metadata classifi cation, entity resolution, or knowledge graph enrichment.
- Familiarity with Elasticsearch or search/indexing systems.
- Background in sports, entertainment, or media content pipelines.
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable fi eld of study, and/or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 3 years related work experience.
