What You'll Be Doing
Job Scope: This position is responsible for providing capital engineering support to successfully implement capital projects on time and on budget in order to assist operations and maintenance in achieving safety, environmental, quality and productivity goals at the facility. Responsibilities include independent handling of major capital projects. Incumbent may also direct activities of others when assistance is required. Commit to employee safety and environmental responsibility, and execute projects in compliance with all Safety, Health and Environmental Policy.
Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Working with minimal supervision to develop and implement project plans that are in line with organizational plans to ensure the plant runs at optimal capacity so that organization strategies are achieved
Ensuring projects are managed from proposal to commissioning by developing specifications, expenditure justifications, establishing performance milestones, monitoring, and correction mechanisms so that project objectives are met
Organizing and executing the project into stages (scope, schedule, costs, functionality, construction) to allow disciplined control of all project risks
Submitting projects for gate approval with all required information
Ensuring all relevant engineering/regulatory standards are adhered to
Managing and participating in the design, planning, construction, supervision and commissioning of approved plant upgrades and modifications
Coordinating and managing internal/contract labor in the execution of project activities
Ensuring Design Change Approvals (DCA’s) for capital projects are completed
Monitors construction activities for compliance to site safety policies
Ideal Background
Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Civil Engineering from an accredited university is preferred.
Certification: Professional Engineering and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) registration is highly preferred.
Experience: This position requires 2+ years of relevant experience in engineering and project management.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The ideal candidate is an engaging, collaborative, and strategic professional with exceptional project management, planning and relationship-building skills.
Must have a bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or related discipline)
Minimum of 2 years of experience in project management, preferably involving capital projects
A thorough knowledge of plant operations and processes within an industrial/chemical facility is required
Exceptional human relations skills required
Internal applicants must have an MX or higher on their most recent performance evaluation and no active corrective actions
Physical Requirements:
Must have no facial hair that interferes with the sealing surface of a respirator which would include hair below the top lip (such as beards, goatees, or excessive sideburns)
Prolonged periods of remaining in a stationary position, often sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Occasional standing for extended periods and walking long distances between work areas
Occasional ascending, descending stairs and working in outdoor weather conditions
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds a times
