Communication Specialist

Job Description:

The Communications Specialist for the departments of History and Anthropology is a dynamic individual with very strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. The Specialist will collaborate with the department managers and chairs of these departments to manage internal and external communications to engage the departments’ many constituencies. This position is responsible for developing and implementing communications and outreach for the departments that will effectively elevate the profile of the departments and their programs across campus, among their constituents, and in the broader higher education community. This position is responsible for managing website content for the two departments, social media platforms, and marketing materials (print and digital, with a focus on a digital-first communications strategy). The position will also lead alumni outreach and engagement efforts.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public affairs or a related field.
• 3-5 years related professional experience in planning for marketing, communications, development and outreach, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.                                                                       
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work with a diverse population of faculty, staff and students. 
• Demonstrated strong written communication and presentation skills with special attention to detail/accuracy and audience.
• Knowledge and command of evolving social media platforms.
• Ability to sustain a high level of productivity and work independently while being part of a collaborative team.
• Sound judgment, discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive matters.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including strong command of MLA, Chicago and/or AP editorial style.
• Flexibility in adjusting to changing demands.
• Proficiency with Google Drive, MS Office, Google. Experience with Canva, Illustrator, and Mailchimp.
• Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, InDesign and Premier, and the capacity to manage design vendors.

Additional physical demands and working conditions:

• Some nights and weekends may be required.
