Independent Contractor : Blue Star Careers Consultant

Location:  Remote, within the US

Project Lead: Director of Workforce Innovation Programs

Position Type: Independent Contractor, approximately 30 hours per month through December 2027

Hourly range: Up to $35 per hour

 

About Blue Star Families

Blue Star Families (BSF) is a national nonprofit dedicated to supporting military families by providing programming and resources while strengthening their connections to their local communities. We partner with businesses, government agencies, and local organizations to create impactful programs that empower and uplift military families.

Independent Contractor Engagement Terms:

This independent contractor will be retained solely for project-based, outcome-driven services and will not be an employee, agent, or representative of Blue Star Families. The independent contractor:

• Retains full autonomy over the method, schedule, and tools used to perform services.
• Is not assigned work hours, or internal recurring meetings.
• Shall not use a BSF job title, business card, or name tag.
• Will not represent themselves as a BSF employee or agent to external stakeholders.

 

Project-Based Scope of Work: 

• Develop a social media outreach strategy specific to social networks and the military community and submit a monthly progress summary.
• Support the promotion of virtual events and events at the Blue Star Careers program.
• Draft and contribute to marketing or communication materials, tailored to their service branch and audience.
• Compile and submit a weekly list of verified career and readiness resources relevant to the military community and to benefit the Blue Star Careers community in the Neighborhood
• Create content for Blue Star Families Community Neighborhood and Media Center, including articles, videos, or curated links.
• Engage local employers by sharing insights on the strengths of the branch community and reporting outreach results. 
• Encourage organic engagement in discussion forums and virtual groups related to the Blue Star Careers community.
• Moderate and engage in the Spouseforce community on Facebook to lead traffic to the Neighborhood community. 
• Promote Blue Star Careers events on other Facebook communities and social networks where Blue Star Careers and the Neighborhood community can make an impression.  

 

Required Qualifications

• Proven success in careers/outreach programming and event coordination
• Ability to effectively manage administrative responsibilities required for program execution, including scheduling, documentation, communication, reporting, and follow-up.
• Strong familiarity with The Blue Star Careers Neighborhood community, Google Suite, Canva, and Zoom
• Experience in planning and executing events, including logistics and project management.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships with military families, local community members, and key stakeholders. 
• Must have an active Blue Star Careers community profile in the Neighborhood. 
• Must have an active LinkedIn profile. 

 

Deliverables & Payment Terms

All services shall be delivered in accordance with agreed deadlines and milestones. Payment structure to be outlined in a separate contract. BSF shall not direct how services are performed — only that deliverables meet agreed results.
