Job-purpose
The WV health and nutrition programs seek to contribute to decreased morbidity and mortality in women and girls, including PLW, in the designated provinces of Afghanistan. The sector aims improve health and nutrition status of men, women, and children in particular in the marginalized and hard-to-reach areas by providing equitable, inclusive, and safe access to health and nutrition services for high-risk groups. This will encompass providing lifesaving health and nutrition services for populations in the urgent needs for health and nutrition services in the areas not covered by existing health programing in the country and engaging diverse actors to deliver integrated malnutrition treatment in communities and health facilities.
The Health and Nutrition Assistant position is a full-time, grant-funded role entirely dedicated to assisting with the implementation of health and nutrition programming for World Vision (WV) in the designated provinces. This role involves regular travel to various project sites and active engagement with the health facility and community health workers. The Health and Nutrition Assistant is responsible to assist health and nutrition Officer/Coordinator in implementation of the health and nutrition projects within the designated province. Key activities include organizing and conducting training sessions, providing ongoing mentorship, monitoring the implementation of health activities, and collaborating with local stakeholders to enhance program visibility and effectiveness.
The key responsibilities of the Health and Nutrition Assistant is to support the implementation of the WVA’s health and nutrition projects which include:
- Health and Nutrition Service Delivery:
- Support the provision of health and Nutrition services through static health centers and mobile health and nutrition teams.
- Ensure timely and effective delivery of medical and non-medical supplies to health facilities.
- Monitor and supervise the quality of health services provided to ensure adherence to project standards.
- Training Facilitation:
- Facilitate the organization and delivery of training sessions for health personnel.
- Support the Health and Nutrition Officer/coordinator and health sector team in providing ongoing mentoring and capacity-building initiatives for health staff.
- Referral System Management:
- Coordinate the referral of critical patients to appropriate secondary and tertiary care facilities.
- Follow up on referred cases to ensure they receive proper medical care and support.
- Supervision:
- Supervise the distribution and use of medical and nutrition supplies in health facilities.
- Monitor the implementation of health activities and ensure compliance with project plans and guidelines.
- Conduct regular field visits to assess the needs and performance of health personnel and provide necessary support.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE
Required Education, training, license, registration, and/or
Certification
- Graduated from Medical faculty (MD)
Required Professional Experience
- At least 2 years’ experience in provision of BPHS services and understanding of how health facility operates.
- good report writing skills.
- Ability to engage with different stakeholders and partners in the project site.
- Must have good attention to detail and work accuracy.
Required Language(s)
- Fluency in local languages, both written and spoken
- Fluency in English.
Required travel and/or work environment accommodations
The position is based in Herat province; The position holder must travel to all targeted districts.
Position’s physical requirements
Ability to travel regularly to various project sites within the designated province, often in remote and hard-to-reach areas. Capability to work long hours, including field visits and community engagement activities, which may involve walking or standing for extended periods. General good health to cope with the demands of the job.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge and/or other Qualifications
- Excellent English speaking and writing skills,
- Demonstrable experience in child protection, child rights
- Strong monitoring skills
- Interpersonal, management and conflict resolution skills.
- Communication skills and knowledge of local communities.
- Understanding of Child Protection issues
