The County of El Dorado, Chief Administrative Office, Facilities Division is a Division of the Chief Administrative Office and provides a broad range of internal support services for County departments. These include construction, custodial, and the maintenance and repair of county-owned and leased facilities and grounds. Facilities is committed to plan for, build and maintain the most efficient, effective facilities for County operations for the short and long term.
THE OPPORTUNITY
This is the advanced-level classification in the Building Maintenance Worker class series. Incumbents work under general supervision and exercise a high level of discretion and independent judgment in performing the full range of routine to complex skill craft work tasks. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, installation, and adjustment to a variety of complex County mechanical and electrical systems.
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to:
- Perform troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, installation, and adjustment to a variety of complex County mechanical and electrical systems, such as boilers, circulating pumps, generators, batteries, lighting and electrical control systems, valves, piping and plumbing fixtures, furnaces, blowers and ductwork, pneumatic tubes, water supply and drainage systems, and appliance and fire sprinkler systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical systems, including lubricating, changing filters, cleaning, and testing components.
- Install and modify electrical systems; run new circuits; pull wire; install outlets, switches, and fixtures.
- Install, modify, and repair plumbing and piping systems, including water supply lines, valves, and fixtures, as well as drain, waste, and vent systems.
- Perform skilled carpentry work, including the preparation of concrete forms; place and finish concrete; frame platforms, walls, decks and partitions; install, tapes, and textures sheetrock; install finish material such as baseboards, trims, and moldings.

Come work where others vacation. The County of El Dorado is seeking an experienced Building Maintenance Worker III to support County facilities in beautiful South Lake Tahoe. The ideal candidate is a well-rounded journey-level maintenance professional who takes pride in solving problems, working independently, and keeping public facilities safe and operational.
You will be the go-to craftsperson for complex building systems. Successful candidates bring hands on skill across multiple trades, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC and mechanical, and carpentry, and are comfortable troubleshooting and repairing systems such as boilers, pumps, generators, lighting and controls, valves and piping, furnaces and ductwork, water supply and drainage, and fire sprinkler equipment. You will perform preventive maintenance, install and modify electrical and plumbing circuits and fixtures, frame and finish carpentry projects, and make sound, safety focused decisions in the field while using a wide range of hand, power, and test tools.
This role thrives in a year-round mountain environment. Work includes indoor and outdoor settings in all seasons, occasional work at heights and in confined spaces, and responding to urgent issues with calm and care. The position may be on call at times and may support evening or weekend emergencies to keep County operations running for the community.
